Can’t trade Gardiner, but I know he’s not the focal point here. If the Wings want Morrow (which I’m guessing you have enough D prospects already) it’s gonna take a lot more than a pending UFA who can’t stay healthy - and that’s before you ask for picks.

Yeah not Morrow for Bertuzzi. If you're wanting Morrow, we're talking Larkin with an extension. Not an injury prone overrated winger that can't play defense.

I don't think the Canes and Red Wings are a good fit for a Bertuzzi trade. Detroit declines.

Weird lines. Not sure Sundqvist could handle being on a permanent 5 on 3

I hope we don't lose 9-2 tonight. That's what the Coyotes did to us last season.

That's a big fat no on Jake Gardiner, The guy at this stage of his career is worthless.

It would need to be a deal based around a signed Dylan Larkin to have any chance of getting Scott Morrow. And i don't see Larkin playing in Carolina.

Looking good so far up 1-0, Arizona 0-2 on the PP and that had us worried the most was their PP.

I guess Maatta, Newsy and Boughner have had a positive effect on him. 😁

LOL how unbelievably biased and out of touch do you have to be to ask for Larkin WITH an extension in exchange for a college Dman that hasn't even touched AHL ice yet....wow.

Scott Morrow is the best defensive prospect outside the NHL. You want him? You have to give something worth him? If you do not like that, accept it. Canes will keep Morrow. You need to be unbelieveably clueless to realise that a right-handed defenseman on a college team that is ABSOLUTE GARBAGE still maintaining positive defensive analytics and a point-per-game pace? On a good team he'd win the Hobey Baker at will. Even this year, he should be nominated. Bertuzzi is fine. Morrow is worth more. Get real, and lose the bias.

While I do agree he is up there, you cannot say he is the number 1 slam dunk prospect outside of the NHL. Top 5-Top10… yes. Detroit has one/two of those as well in Ed and Wallinder.

I also agree based on position/age/injuries/contracts/etc. that Morrow for Bert doesn’t make sense, outside of Carolina hitting the big red button and going all in this season. Even if they did, there are several other players that could do similar things Bert can, without mortgaging SM.

Wallinder shouldn't be in the conversation. He's good, not the best out there. Edvinsson, sure, I get that argument. I still would say Morrow is better. Morrow didn't play his entire draft year due to covid and STILL went in the second round. In a redraft, he's easily the first D-man from that draft taken. He's breaking Cale Makar's UMass records. He's a point per game as a D-man on a garbage UMass team. He's certainly the best D prospect in North America, and I stand by my point of saying he's the best D prospect in the league right now. Nemec is the only other one I would really give up the argument against. I understand both of them with that debate. I'd still suggest Morrow is probably a better prospect than Jiricek at this point. If I'm forgetting any others, please remind me.

I put Wallinder in there because I believe he is over-shadowed by the other defensemen in Detroit's system that were recently drafted. Seider, Edvinsson, Wallinder, Johansson, Buium all very highly regarded. Wallinder beat Edvinsson out for rookie honors last year in the SHL, and has shown this season that it wasn't a one and done (Neiderbach and Dower-Nils demoted from SHL this year after being projected to improve). He is a fantastic 2-way defender. I would be surprised if in the NHL prospect rankings if he was outside the top 10-15. It is tough to rave about the same team having multiple picks at similar positions and say that each one is deserving. Usually one prospect wins the media battle and gets the coverage. Pretty easy with Edvinsson and his comparisons.

Nemec and Jiricek are up there, but honestly I haven't seen as much of Jiri this season to say fairly where he is at. I am very high on Mintyukov because of the way the league has shifted and him being offensively gifted. Faber/Lambos both continue to grow on me (living in Minnesota) and Topi was there but since has cooled off (watching Viro at WJC and kept hoping Viro was RH because it was him). Brandt Clarke would be the one depending how you view him of being the top prospect, however I could see the case that he is an NHL regular this year when it is all said and done (Guhle as well). I believe Morrow is in that conversation.

In all fairness, some 3th-4th-5th rounder is right now doing things under the radar and ends up being the best d-man in the draft lol.

I can agree with most of this. Nemec Jiricek, Clarke, Lambos, Faber, Guhle are definitely great. Personally (at this moment) I'd probably go
Morrow
Nemec
Edvisson
Jiricek
Faber
Clarke
Wallinder
Lambos

They're all going to see the NHL. They all have great tools, but I still think Morrow is the cream of that crop. His skating ability is just ridiculous, he's so gifted offensively, he can be physical when he needs to, and he's got a great hockey sense. All of these guys have something that holds them back, and for Morrow, it is his defensive awareness and to a point his positioning, but he's able to cover most of it with the speed he has. I just think logically, the net gain you get with Morrow's positives as opposed to his negatives is the best of any D prospect (currently drafted) at this point. Not to mention, breaking the school records held by CALE MAKAR is going to raise the stock of the guy. Admittedly, I may have some rose-tinted glasses, but when I compare him to someone like Nemec, the tools are better for Morrow, and the weaknesses are easier to overcome and less prominent. Just my thoughts.

Outside of the hyperbole from the other Canes fan here:

Canes won’t be interested in Bertuzzi. He wouldn’t be an extension candidate due to his age and injury history. Knowing that the Canes aren’t paying top value for a rental.
No 1sts or top prospects for rentals.

The Canes are very high on Morrow. While his potential is high, what generally makes him untouchable is his cap hit and potential production levels will fit into our window perfectly.

I guess we will see, either way there are some solid defensemen about to enter the league.
