Canucks probably rather have Ceulemans than Boqvist. Boqvist is the opposite type of defenseman we need

CBJ isn't giving up a lottery pick and more to sign an upcoming UFA. If they really want Horvat they can resign him, but eight years of Horvat, is any team doing that?

If Horvat somehow makes it to UFA, he definitely gets 7 years

Jackets have too many offensive D-men also and would probably rather keep Ceulemans.
Boquist still has good upside, but needs to work on his defensive game.

I don’t see Vancouver making that trade, but it’s about the most I’d move for him with an extension. I’m also on the side of give Vancouver a 4th when the season is over just to talk to Horvat before anyone else.

All depends on if they can reach a deal on an extension. Otherwise there is no trade and we would try to sign him as a free agent.

I see Horvat been a UFA. Having him make another 2m for the next seven years for Vancouver doesn't improve the Canucks at all. Canucks gotta get assets (probably down the road) and spend the 7.5m to bolster their roster somehow.
But these sign and trades, especially from a non playoff team like CBJ...and expected a great return doesn't make sense at all for CBJ.
Gotta think Canuck management learned from mistake last season when they didn't get a nice return for the superior (at the time) Miller.
Now the Canucks have starting next season, an 2.5m more expensive Miller starting an 7 year contract at age 30.
If the Canucks for some reason sign Horvat (and Miller), their team isn't any better than the 21/22 and 23/23 team. They just paid more for current players.

laugh You think that's a fair deal? Voracek is an aging winger cap dump that holds no value for Vancouver, Ceulemans makes more sense then Boqvist and a 2024 1st round picks that's a 1 year draft away. That offer is easily beaten.

You're not getting Horvat with an extension for a cap dump in Voracek and Boqvist a 2024 1st and a 2023 2nd round pick. Take out Voracek and add Roslovic and you're probably closer.

I really like boqvist higher on him then most, unfortunately CBJ are a bottom 5 team this year and no way In hell they are trading their 2023 1st, I could see their 2024 1st being in the 15 range, Vorchek could be dealt with retention for assets, I mean if Vancouver can get more than this I'd be over the moon

Maybe, but this is the trade that makes sense for the Jackets. With the retention Voracheck is probably at a fair contract and the Jackets would need to get him off the books for the Horvat extension.

Also, Poolman is a bit of a cap dump also so that helps to balance the trade.

I don’t think this deal is close. If you really want Horvat, it starts with Ceulemans, and will probably take a first and another pretty good prospect that will hurt to lose, like Dumais, or LDBB.

Boqvist would be fine, the only problem is he can't stay healthy long enough.

Not really. He is likely permanently on LTIR so he doesn’t impact that cap

I figured a deal like this would end around Roslovic as a replacement center and the haggling come between Boqvist/Cuelmans with the potential of a sweetener like Bemstrom is included. Canucks are more interested in younger players right now than raw draft picks while Columbus is looking to fill holes while their young core continues to develop. This trade probably doesn't happen as the offer can probably get beat from someone else due to an obvious overpay but this type of deal is the closest thing to a "hockey trade" that could come from the two organizations.
