dont think it make sense to get reilly again, even less if it means scratching xhekaj.

I can see Lou doing that to push Bailey out of the lineup

It's a good way to squeeze assets out of a team needing cap space. Reilly also plays the style St-Louis wants like Harris and Matheson. There could be a rotation between Xhekaj, Reilly, Harris and Kovacevic.

If that’s all Dadonov costs I’d do it today.

Haven’t seen a ton of Montreal this year but he’s a good player that just doesn’t fit. Could fit over here?

i dont know if those asset are worth it. and i think if you really wanted to take on cap dump, you could get better asset back in the offseason, might be smarter to wait until then.

I'm starting to think that he just doesn't fit in the league anymore. It's not an effort thing because he's clearly trying, but he just doesn't have it. They've even tried different stuff to try to spark him such as giving him PK1 time but nothing really works. This is just out of respect to try to rejuvenate his NHL career before the contract expires in case it's just a system thing with the Habs.

I really like Mäntykivi as a lower-end prospect. I think he could turn out as a Noel Acciari type in an NHL bottom-six. Also, Reilly is a good roster defenseman and the team would surely be able to get assets for him with some retention at the 2024 deadline. Even with Reilly on the books, the roster above still has $24,983,334 in cap space with Caufield (and Harris to a lesser extent) being the only prominent expiring contract. Taking on a larger cap dump in the offseason would still be doable.
