1. No way SENs ownership has the money to spend to the cap, but let’s assume somehow new owners are willing to lose millions every year whole financing a new arena
2. Why would Chicago take on Zaitsev’s albatross contract and give you Murphy for two 2nds and a mid level prospect (7th ranked in your system)?
3. Why would Zub choose to stay with a perennial loser when he is a FA and will get similar offers from better teams?
4. Why would you bring back essentially the same team that is bottom 5 this year and expect anything different?

Because Zaitsev will only have 1 year left with 2.5 mill on it in the summer. Because Thomson is a 1st rounder and still has potential.

1 year = 2.5 mill in cash for Zaitsev = 2nd to dump
Thomson and a 2nd for Murphy. Also Thomson is top 5 in our system.

Because Zub will be re-signed and Sens can’t afford to let him walk.

And I’m bringing the same team because Zub and Norris were injured during our slide and this team is underperforming . And removing Hamonic/Brannstrom and replacing with more physical and a better top 4D .

Good plan, just:

No chance you will spend to the cap again
No chance hawks accept that offer
No chance Zub resigns, imo. He’d be an idiot to do so.
You reference two injuries - which happen to every team - but you fell into the bottom 5!
Team needs major changes / restructuring ; Dorion went aggressive too quickly - core is not that good.

You just sound like someone who hates the Sens saying that.

I agree with none of your statements

The new owner(s) aren't going to spend hundreds of millions on an NHL team just to immediately tell Ottawa fans they're cheapskates by not spending to the cap... Billionaires do the same things we all do when we buy a new toy, they play with it.

No, I hope they become competitive (not as good as the Leafs) but competitive. Ottawa is a great city and a major hockey hotbed . It was annoying listening to SENs fans all summer - the level of hyperbole was ridiculous. Just my opinion but outside Stutzle & Chabot (& Sanderson maybe) no one really elite on that team yet Dorion has committed big dollars to good but not great players. He should be fired (Giroux should never have been signed) and debrincat should be traded ; you have some good young pieces coming but still need 2 top 4 dmen + goalie - competitive window is still 2-3 years away.

Let me guess he wants the Sens to:

Trade Zub for a 2nd
Trade Debrincat for futures
Keep Zaitsev
And continue tanking and be irrelevant because he’s a leafs fan

Trade Zub to Leafs for a 2nd
Trade Debrincat for Dermott, Bracco, 2nd
Keep Zaitsev (and take Holl)
And continue tanking and be irrelevant because he’s a leafs fan

(Small changes)

New Jersey is a good model actually. Absolutely woeful the past 10 years, but they drafted high (& well), developed players, were patient, made limited but impactful FA signings and now they are a scary team. Ottawa was 2-3 years behind New Jersey curve, but Dorion panicked and tried to shortcut the process. Just my opinion; non Leafs fans are happy to share their opinions on leafs so… nothing personal.

The Sens needed a top 4D and should’ve got Marino. They’re great on offence even while having Brassard as the Norris replacement.

But their defence has been terrible. They need to replace Hamonic and Brannstrom with a top 4D and a physical defensive 3rd pair LD

Senators are looking well set up for future. Just need a couple more dmen and some good health. If they would get a stud RD and extend Zub cheaply, they’ll be in good shape.

Sens fans ranked Thomson 5th in summer polls, and that's because Sanderson, Pinto and Greig were #1, 2, 3

Sogaard was 4th

Thomson is not a "mid-level prospect" lol

He's over 0.5 PPG as a young 20's D-man in the AHL

The Sens have 6 first liners but the bottom-6 is awful (Dorion), the RD is really bad (Dorion) and the hockey systems are not NHL level (coaching)

Fix that and the Sens have a pretty good team. I am not expecting Dorion to be able to do it though

I’m done commenting on the SENs faults (numerous); to be fair - as a Leafs fan, it’s hard to objective (I’m glad they remain a sh$t show). Suffice it to say I don’t think they’re anywhere close to competing (the standings don’t lie) but you guys know the situation better than me

Thomson and a 2nd isn't getting murphy and the reason why, is the hawks have too many defensive prospects especially if they aren't top tier prospects. No need for bottom 4 potential guys
