Rebuild

Created by: JDHockey
Team: 2023-24 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 24, 2022
Published: Nov. 26, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The below scenario only happens if Bergeron and Krejci do not return. Bruins part with two valuable pieces to bolster Center position. Not sure those values would be fair, but still looking for positive discussions. Thanks !

Why would we trade two 20 year olds and a 1st for a 34 year old with only a few years left? Mercer is already a stud

This isn't what a rebuild looks like. This is just Boston fleecing two teams and trying to stay competitive with UFAs.

It all depends on how close NJ Front Office believe they are to being contenders. If they truly believe this Devils team can compete for a Cup then you sell for proven playoff talent.

Carlo would be a good piece for the jackets but he doesn’t get sillinger one for one

I mean, you’re kind of asking, “why do trades in the NHL happen?” This is pretty much the model that most NHL trades exist around - future success for current success.

Devils aren’t in that situation. We’re trying to build a Cup Contender for a decade, not 2 years. Mercer will be apart of that

I’m not sure what league you’re watching. All the teams that have been legitimate contenders in the cap era have moved futures for immediate help.

To not want the team to make the trade is reasonable, but to say, “why would a team trade two 20 year olds for a 34 year old,” is a ridiculous question to ask. The answer is simply, to win.

With already having Gudbranson, Blankenburg, Peeke, Boqvist, Jiricek, Cuelamens and the emergence of Bjork I don’t see Columbus trading for a RHD or even a defenseman without moving at least 2 of Gudbranson, Peeke, or Boqvist. Columbus needs a top line center a lot more then they need another RHD.

And what I'm saying is that in the long run, the Devils will win more with Mercer, Bahl, and their 2023 1st than they would with Marchand for 2 or 3 years

First, that’s not what you said.
Second, you don’t know that. I think you’re probably wrong. Holding onto everyone is a recipe to be good for a long time, but come away empty handed.

Marchand doesn’t fit NJD timeline.

(And whoa on Carlo deal)

Devils will not be giving up Mercer for an aging player. Yes, Marchand is a top 5 winger in the league but he’s 34. Devils aren’t in a position to go all in. They got a bunch of years to be cup contenders. Very very easy no from the devils

Sillinger isn't on the market, and he's got way more value then that if he was. Bjork has really shown well this season and I don't see why they trade him when he's just scratching the surface...
