I don't think acquiring Meier is a great idea for the leafs.
There's basically no chance they could make his QO at 10 million next season. Might be better to go for a straight rental, a Horvat or maybe a Kane/Toews

Meier $3 mil retained and taking a cap dump back will cost more than that

Definetely agree that it would take more but I wouldn't quite go as far as saying an expiring $2.25m contract is a rental.

I think the more likely outcome is that he signs a long-term deal at closer to 8m, maybe 9, instead of taking the 1-year deal and walking to UFA (which isn't a huge difference). It would be veeeeery difficult, but I don't think it's impossible - particularly if the cap rises around $4m as is possible

Not nearly enough for Timo and could see other teams beat that easily and keep him next year.

Nope, the Sharks will easily take this considering the low ball offers that they will get

It's a good starting offer for Timo. A few tweaks and i think Grier accepts.if TO can get another 2023 2nd i think SJ accepts.

Drop the 2nd and give us Moldenhauer. That's the deal that intrigued me the most

I would love the player, but even at $9million he would be a hard fit, even at a 86 million cap. It probably means moving on from Nylander. And possibly Bunting and Kampf. And also limits what you can do with Sandin and Liljegren long term.

Honestly I would consider this trade even for just one yr. Use the cheap hit this year to go as far as you can, and maybe you move him in the summer. The QO probably kills any leverage you have, but I guess you could probably get some return.

I would want Knies included in a Timo deal or no go.

Come on, you know full well the worst offenders of Leaf fans also had a prospect and a 1st going as well. Kerfoot has never been sent for Horvat straight up.

Also this guy is an Islanders fan who's been doing this sort of crap for years. Mr.Dinkee was his handle

You pay 11million for John Tavares, so shouldnt be the biggest concern for you

JT is a centre and has outscored Meier always. "Meier plays on a bad team, in TO he would easily score 90+". A guy that can't produce as much as guys we have without better players isn't worth 10 million. That QO is a major problem for you and will lower his value.

Ok, well someone will pay more than a late first and a B prospect, so we will trade to that team
