Rental Horvat isn't worth that. Calgary counters with Milan Lucic, Kevin Rooney, a 2023 1st and a 2024 2nd for rental Horvat. No retention necessary.

He is up there with McDavid for goals and Flames aren't really scoring as Mangiapane has done nothing and Horvat has more goals (17) then Kadri (8) and Toffoli (7) combined so that package is what you pay a guy on goal scoring tear that he ended last season on before getting injured as well as the first 22 games of this season.
Also it's not like the Flames are the only team in line to trade for him
