Do you honestly believe Montreal retains salary for 4.5 years?

Monahan was a dump by calary. He wasn't playing anywhere near the way Pageau was playing at the time of the trade. I'll bet anything, that you won't get anything close to a 1st.

Calgary had to move money to sign Kadri and trade for Huberdeau and Weeger. There was a huge risk involved for any team taking Monahan in the offseason, now that he has played games and is on pace for 50 points his value is that of a 2nd line center not a cap dump. I have never in my life seen a 50 point player considered to be a cap dump. It's ridiculous how he is viewed on here, those saying he is a cap dump don't know much about hockey.

You obviously aren't to verus on Monahan and his contract. Calary was trying to dump him for 2 years now.

Due to surgeries and the uncertain projection of his play. They didn't want to gamble on playing him and paid to move him, a move I bet they could have a do-over of and maybe try to not have to pay to move him at all. He may not be the player he was prior to his injuries (yet) but he is having a phenomenal season start considering and his projection for the remainder of the season is well worth the 1st whether that's this year or not. It's absolutely insane to think of him as a dump. MTL was paid to gamble on him, nothing more. The gamble is paying off immensely.

Nobody thought chiarot would fetch what Habs got either. Playoff teams get silly at the TDL. If monahan maintains what he’s done so far, I wouldn’t be surprised if he fetched a 1st or a 2nd with prospect.

just bc one team made a trade 3 years ago doesnt mean another team will do the same thing today
also that trade was based on Pageau coming with an extension

no one is giving Monahan a 6 year extension to complete a trade

Yeah sure,Calgary gave Montreal a 1st rounder to take him off their hands. I got it. So now he's very valuable because he's on Montreal's roster and he can fetch a 1st rounder now. I guess Calgary couldn't take a 2nd rounder for him, no there were NO takers and they had to add a 1st to get ANYONE to take him.

Please Montreal fans....I know you think everyone on your team is worth a top 2023 pick....Must be nice to be dreamers like you guys.

He had a major hip inury. No one is giving you a 1st rounder with his injury history and contract....STOP.

Congratulations, you're now a hypocrite.

I understand you can throw around the tag words like "injury history" and "contract" to devalue a player. With the way he has rebounded this season after FULLY recovering from his surgeries, at 50% retained, will be very valuable at the TDL this year. Don't forget that this team is supposed to be in dead last according to everyone's predictions and this roster of players, Monahan included, are outperforming expectations. If he maintains his current pace of play and stays healthy, he has every possibility to return a 1st round pick @ 50% retained to a potential contender looking to improve.

Monahan may fetch a first from someone daft enough but can't see it being Colorado. EJ also blocks that trade which is an even better reason for why it doesn't happen.

Monahan is on pace for 54 points. He has good defense as well. During the season you guys traded for Pageau he was also on pace for 54 points. Im asking for a less amount for a better player

Speculation, because the owner has said he wants to win. All owners approve trades anyways. Just look at hubberdeau/weegar trade.

Of course it's speculation hence the word MAY. I Don't think Vinny Viola is That hands on. I am extremely thankful Jeff Vinnik isn't.
