Mostly right, but Vanecek's advanced stats entering this season were decidedly average, and McLeod is the walking definition of replacement level. While I'm a huge fan of Sharangovich and Mercer, their underlyings leave something to be desired, especially Sharangovich so far this season.

Pipeline is packed with analytic darlings

Reilly Walsh led AHL in a number of these fancy stats last year (in 5v5)
Topias Vilen, Samu Salminen good too.
Ethan Edwards in 2nd half last year.

Hopefully some of those guys work out.

Analytics would say they were trash for 8 of those 10 years, and that if not for their anaemic goaltending they could've been a bubble team last year. Analytics would also say that they've had 3 cups since Toronto had one.

What other teams have robust analytics departments?

I know NJD, CAR, COL...but I wonder who else.

(Obviously all teams do some level of quantitative analysis, but not all make decisions on it)

If they they were trash for 8 of those 10 years, then analytics aren't proving anything.

Well Toronto also use analytics a lot. So it contradicts your point.

If Toronto uses analytics a lot, and they've been very good in the last five or so years, and the Devils use analytics and are now contenders, what's wrong with analytics?

But the analytics dept was built after Shero arrived. Really took steam with Fitzy.

As for Leafs....

1966-67 - Leafs Cup (6 teams in NHL)
1967-68 - Expansion (12 teams)
1982-83 - Devils arrive (21 teams)
1994-95 - Devils Cup (26 teams)
1999-00 - Devils Cup (28 teams)
2002-03 - Devils Cup (30 teams)

Well neither team has accomplished much in the postseason (one didn't reach it at all). Analytics are important but I hate the narratives that underrate other elements of the game such as grit, hard to play against.

Colorado got it right and traded for Manson despite poor analytics.

These are good player and players that compliment each other playing together.

Don't get the causality backward, the advanced stats describe what we all recognize to be true, these are good players playing on a team who's offensive and defensive strategies play to their strengths and help them have chemistry together. The fact that this is true does not prove that the advanced stats work. In this case the advanced stats fit the model, but I would trade any two defensemen currently playing for the Devils for Victor Hedman and feel I won the trade.

Our GM in Buffalo has put together a very good analytical department, probably with the help of his assistant Jason Karmanos, and they are constantly in touch with the analysts.

Your comment makes zero sense
Devils weren’t analytically heavy until 2021ish. In a year by acquiring players with good analytics, Fitzgerald was able to turn a bottom 5 team into a top 5 team

It makes sense? What have they done since 2021ish? mhmmm nothing that suggests they aren't the Leafs 2.0. Trust me I like my regular season runs too, but Dubas' "analytics acquisitions" can really sh*t the bed when playoff hockey starts.

Did you expect the Devils to finish their rebuild that quickly?

How slow are you? Fitzgerald took over a team that was already rebuilding for like 6 years. It's not like he had no basis at all lmao

Lol @ the classic random rebuttals, it's usually what clueless people with no arguments say.
