Great 3rd pairing dman to have for the playoffs. Also gives you a cost controlled LHD for 23-24 season. Pairings next year would be

You have to let Graves walk in this case because he will be looking for term and $$$ this offseason.
Then in 24-25, Edmunson will be gone and you can then have

I don't hate it.

But i think I'd rather keep bird-in-hand and extend Graves if he would take a 3-4 x $4 million-ish deal.

Edmundson has a D in his name.

I like Walsh as a player and the cap relief. I agree that a 3rd feels a bit light. Maybe a 2nd or else a 3rd and a 4th?

Montreal would hope for a 1st with 50% retained. Someone will pay that for 2 playoff runs with Edmundson

A year ago I would have said no way but the young LD’s have played far superior than anticipated. I think Eddy is a trade chip now. Playoff teams get silly and often overpay, so he might fetch a higher pick

I'd love to bring Graves back but not giving him more than 3 years(length of L Hughes and Nemec's entry level deal) and wouldn't pay over 4m. If he wants to do 3x4, then I'm game

Edmundson is unlikely to be an upgrade over Brendan Smith as he is contributing to Montreal conceding more chances when he's on the ice rather than effectively suppressing them.
Devils really shouldn't do this.

Marcus Pettersson with the Penguins would be a much better option if the Devils didn't trust Brendan Smith (or Bahl) to play 3LHD in the playoffs.
