Leafs Radical Transformation if another 1st round exit

Created by: DSG
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 28, 2022
Published: Nov. 28, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Move Marner and Tavares to sign depth forwards and defensemen. Unlike the previous team, this team is a 3 line team where the fourth line has grit and plays an aggressive style of hockey. Also the blue line is much improved with Slavin, Radko and Chychurn.

Leafs are 13-5-5 4th best in the league and you’re worried a first round exit?

Canes politely decline

I see a storm on the horizon.

The Caniacs will tear this apart like a category 5 if they see it.

Arizona and Carolina pass.

Alex Debrincat isn't signing for no 3 x $7,500,000 talk about a joke of an offer.

Patrick Kane isn't signing with no Canadian team.

How does that trade make any sense for Ottawa?

Marner has 4 points more than Necas and 5 points more than Svechnikov. Do you want Slavin too? You wouldn't get that kind of package for MATTHEWS. This is awful. Cane tell you to absolutely get stuffed, except not as nicely. I just can't afford another infraction.

Kane signing with Toronto isnt out of the realm of possibilties. There a competitive team and its close to New York.

That Canes trade is about as insulting as offering a 6th round pick and a bag of pucks for Matthews. Marner would not get Slavin, let alone adding Jarvis and Necas. And then adding insult to injury, you put Slavin on the second pair. The only LHD that Slavin *might* play behind are Josi and Hedman.

I agree with the sentiment but yes, yes I am. We've seen this movie many a times. We shall see if part 7 has a different ending.

But yea lets ask a team to give up the core of their team, and lets trade the homegrown hometown superstar, potential HHOF player (this may be controversial but if Leafs win a cup I think he will be) and Leafs all time legend, on a 17 game point streak. Not ideal or either side.

Disagree with the trade but Marner > than any Canes player; what planet do you live on 😂?

Tavares ain't waiving for Ottawa.
He'll be bleeding blue and white till the very end.

Muzzin's trade value is basically dead weight at this point.
Carolina declines so fast. You're basically trading Carolina's 3 core players for Marner.

I’m sure Paul will be happy you think Mitch is Gretzky, but no one else does, that’s an asinine offer. And that’s not even discussing how bad the chychrun offer is

Aho is really good & so is Slavin, but neither is (or just barely are) top 10 in their position. Mitch is a top 3 winger, elite offensively & defensively.

sure but like centers and defencemen are more valuable than wingers, Marner wouldn't be (or would just barely be at best) top 10 if being compared against centers for example. I do think he's worth marginally more than Aho, but im also biased, and can understand that Aho's position as a center does have an impact

The whole dmen and centres vs wingers is over played. While it is true, wingers can be superstars too - Ovechkin was best player on his team, Patty Kane, Kucherov. Marner is exceptional and elite - the list of players better than him in this league is short . Aho & Slavin aren’t at that level, imo.

A 4th 3 years from now isn’t getting Kolesar. Not saying it would take a ton but he is far more valuable to vegas than that

sure but I do think you're underestimating Aho's impact, and while Marner's production is a bit better there is still something to be said for a centerman. Im not saying Aho's necessarily better, I don't think so personally, but its close, there is an argument, and they are both in that super elite echelon of the league

I agree sort of. Just going to reformat what you said. The whole centre vs winger vs dman value is real. But player caliber changes that. If you’re comparing Aho, Svechnikov, and Slavin who are all elite players this is a reality. Aho holds the most value as a true #1 centre. Then Slavin as a top pairing D man. Then Svechnikov. Although Svechnikov is amazing, the positional requirements theoretically of the winger out of these 3 are easiest to replace.
But when we get into superstar players this isn’t as easy to decide. Like you said, Ovi is a winger. But his value even today is insane.
I think we are seeing the truest form of this in Colorado these days. MacKinnon is a true superstar through and through. One of the best centres in the league. But my god. What is Makar? That kid is so fun to watch. Logic would dictate that MacKinnon is more valuable. But Jesus I don’t know anymore.

I thinks it's possible I'm not gonna claim I know where he's signing. Have to remember these are people who make their own decisions. Toronto is a Better Team than New York and Buffalo which were the teams he grew up around. Toronto is not extremely from there either.
