Trading Lafreniere to MTL

Created by: AG_sweden
Team: 2022-23 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 27, 2022
Published: Nov. 29, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- NYR draft (C) William Smith of the USDP and (F) Charle Stramel of Univ. of Wisconsin NCAA.
- would like to blow this team up but unfortunately the NMC prevents that, but I am sure Laffy wouldn't mind playing for MTL.
- I'm not sold on Othmann or Cuylle either but perhaps on of them can play top 9/ bott 6 min next year.

After they traded 13OA for Dach last year, i could see MTL trade their 2023 1st for Lafreniere if it's out of top 7.

I'm sure it will be, my guess it will be somewhere in the 10-15. I also expect Laffy to play much better under st.louis

Yeah, I know you would like that. But I don't see NYR moving him for less. So question is if MTL want him or not. If yes that is the price in my mind.
Otherwise they might as well keep him.

Laf would probably get what Dach got. I am very high on Smilanic, so I dont think this make sense. But if the Habs hold like 8-13 OVR, it makes sense. Of course, 8OVR would probably be one for one and 13OVR could add a pick in the mid 60s or so

I can trust you to make stupid trade proposals for Leafs I guess; will that work?

The leafs will just keep Kerfoot if he has negative trade value. No point in paying to get rid of a player as longer as you have the cap space due to injuries

HABS would accept as long as the pick is Top 5 protected

The Only I reason I say this is because those players will most likely become franchise players

Honestly Dach and Lafreniere had similar problems. Both were beasts on the forechecknin junior but in the NHL that’s been non existent until the trade.

NYR should be trading Kakko instead of Lafreniere. Laffy, has at least been showing some progress each year. I expect him to break out later this year or next.

I also think, if they trade one, it should be for a proven player. Who is the last star forward that developed in NY from the start of their career?

TBH, I would take the trade as outlined above. I hate losing Smilanic and a 2nd when we gave up just 13th + 66th for Dach but the 2nd in this proposal is 2 years out so we need to add value. I do think that you need to add top 10 and top 7 protection to the 1st though. Something to the effect of If the pick is top 7 it reverts to the 2024 draft unprotected and if it is 8-10 then the trade is 1 for 1 (I don't know if these conditions are possible but would try anyway). If you can't put that condition on then just go 2023 (top 7 protected) + FC, then add whatever later to balance it out.

If TOR wanted to shed cap, only reason in this scenario. But of course understand what you are coming from.

Leafs aren't planning to trade Kerfoot until the Leafs are planning to dump Kerfoot. Just wait a few weeks and it will happen.

Doubt if Goodrow waives for Edmonton, Only if the Leafs have an upgrade on Kerfoot 3.5m cap would they trade him. No need to trade him for cap right now.
You're right Montreal might do that trade. But getting LAF because is from Quebec is a poor reason to trade for him.

If conditions can be as complex as the one for the Monahan trade then you can draft the condition you want and it will be fine

Actually, just make it the same conditions as what the Habs had on the Dvorak deal

The better of Montreal/Florida's 2022 1st round pick BUT if either or both are top 10 picks then Montreal will instead transfer to New York the worse of Montreal/Florida's 2022 1st round pick.

Assuming that both Montreal and Florida miss the playoffs.

The frustrating thing here is that it might actually come to HAVING to trade one of LaF, Chytil, or Miller. If, of the 3 LaF is determined to be the player moved, the general narrative about him is that he's not developing like a #1OA....so the value they can get in return will be suppressed. Yet if you watch the games, you see he really is becoming a pretty good player- only his #'s lag. Well- if LaF was only given PP1 time (like most #1OA's get) his production would ramp up...which would probably do wonders for his confidence....which would enable even more development. And there is a place for him on PP1! The position Panarin plays on PP1 would be much more effectively filled with a left hand shot so that a 1 timer is an option from that spot. Panarin should be playing on the left for the same reason. Once again- it all comes back to coaching and organizational management. Don't want to filibuster that again today, but this is where NYR really fall short. The entire organization from Sather to the scouting/player development, to the coaching staff needs an enema.

I agree. I feel under St. Louis he would flourish. And yes like 98 % of all his points are 5 on 5. And like you say I feel like the organization is doing a huge disfavor of its young players.

If anyone sees it as painful the success Buch is having (nothing negative against him...just the return received for him)....you ain't seen nothing yet! Would not be surprised if LaF and/or Kakko became stars elsewhere! Which is why I say to keep both here...just expand their roles! Really not difficult- just need a coach who has the balls to get past the egos of some of the veterans- whose floors are killing this team!
