wow okay then

that is... a lot.

8.45 for a PPG two-way center isn't "a lot"

There's a lot of really ignorant comments both on here and on Twitter of people who have clearly never seen him play.

Hintz is so very important to Dallas. It isn't even just the goals and points, he's a fast as hell skater and plays a 200ft game. He kills penalties, blocks shots, takes the body.

If he played in a bigger market people would not be saying the things they're saying. This contract is not a steal but it's far from an overpay. I hate to take a shot at other team's players but look at what Barzal got, look at what Marner makes and tell me how this is an overpay.

well Marner scores over a point a game over his whole career, so its not really the same to compare them.

I don't care about the AAV but I think a guy with 1.5 good seasons shouldn't get $12M in signing bonus and a full NMC.

Big leap of faith, deserved or not.

Looks pretty good for a first line centre. Personally think Hintz is a bit underrated when discussing centres.

Roope has gained a lot by playing with and watching Pavelski. Just another player little Joe has helped turn into a star. Good contract on an underrated player.

1st line center for under $9M? Sounds like a great deal to me!

If he plays in a Canadian market, he WOULD get sooooooo much more love, he is so good. Great job by DAL to lock him up. With Miro Heiskanen, Jason Robertson and Jake Oettinger, DAL having Wyatt Johnston and Ty Dellandrea have been fantastic this season, Logan Stankoven tearing up the WHL, this team is set to be good for a long time.

It’s a shame they didn’t get Robertson locked up to

I feel like there must be something wrong with those stats. He's so good at goals and assists and finishing. But his ev offense is not nearly as good. Is that suggesting he's just a pp threat?

This is pretty much the going rate for top line centers nowadays. Good deal for Dallas.

This is the going rate for lower end 1c's. Seems pretty good

in all seriousness tho HOW DID HE GET MORE TERM AND AAV THAN ROBERTSON??????????

Because bridges are for lower dollars. For RFA's terms under 4 years cost less. Terms between 5-8 depends how old they are. If later RFA's extra term can bring the aav down. If a young aav longer term will cost more as they'll want to be a Ufa again in their 20s

this is a great contract for DAL and Hintz.... i think VAN would have liked it better if it started with a 7 though, this will drive up the price to re-sign horvat

Horvat will cost a lot more if he keeps this year up

He's had 2 great seasons. He's been ppg since the start of 2020-2021. That is established

One of them was a shortened season, thus the .5. You must be fun at parties.

I have been following the salary cap closely for the last decade. There is a trend that persists. Fans don't understand cap inflation. It takes a while for fans to accept how AAVs for certain tiers of players correct alongside the rises to the cap that both have already happened and are expected in the near future.

8M is the new 6M. When players were getting 6M, people thought they should get 4M or 5M. The trend continues.

The only criticism of this contract is the NMC. The cap and salary structure is fairly vanilla.

For once I agree with you. Could this turn out to be a great deal down the road? Absolutely. But he is still fairly unproven and this is a big gamble. I think the chances are much higher that it turns out good than bad but still, it’s a big gamble

This contract will age badly. By year three he would have peaked and starting to decline.

No, it really won't. Hintz is by far a superior player to Horvat, not to mention younger. It might affect negotations between Detroit and Larkin's camp regarding an extension though.

You sure about that? It will be up when Hintz is 34, but I also suppose Hintz has a bit of an injury track record that is worth noting. Not to mention he uses his size to help him break up plays defensively, so maybe there is some credence to that, but it's definitely on the low end of reaching onerous potential IMO.

No he won't, it's still clear as day that Horvat isn't nearly as complete a player as Hintz is.

So when you add 20+ games this season it adds up to 2... And its still 2 full seasons even if there was a covid season there... Actually that makes it better because that season the games was basically 1game per 2 days and extra stress from covid... So under 9m for a 1C who has lead the best or top 3 line in NHL the last 2 seasons is still a steal

EV offense is play driving . You can be an elite point producer without being an elite play driver.

They didn't have the cap space for the money that it would have taken to get Robertson under contract for 8 years unless they paid other teams to take a bad contract or two.
