If they make him the highest paid player on the team, that's not going to sit well with Forsberg or Josi. There's no reason to pay Meier more than 8m like his comparables and with the low-taxes, he probably accepts that. I'm just wondering how they are going to fit him in.

I would fit him between Forsberg and Duchene cap wise (8.15-8.45) and he can play either wing!
sharks seriously consider this if he wont sign long term here.
big question is how you fit his deal under the cap?

Timo is not getting less than Hintz. With the cap going up that's just the way things are. Guys aren't going to want out just because a guy is making a bit more money than them.
I think OP has the high end of a long term Timo extension, but his number is closer to 8.5-9
