Yeah not even close. Matthews just won the Hart and is a 2 time Rocket Richard winner who continually gets better. He's about as untouchable as it gets in Toronto

I would say its not close but trading Franchise stars is a funny thing because there is a critical maximum that any GM would be willing to offer. For example, Connor McDavid is probably worth like 30 first round picks at face value, but at some point (well before 30) any GM in the league would consider that trade irresponsible. So there has to be a compromise between "regular guy value" and "trade anything thats not nailed down.

Literally why

Because it makes you better. But it's not a move Vancouver should make and one TO wouldn't even answer the phone for

As good as Matthews is, this trade would cripple the Canucks. So, even if they experience some improvement (like make the playoffs), it will be short-lived. Just look at that D-core. They will have no cap to sign upgrades, and no 1sts for 3 years so drafting and developing guys will be a challenge.

It absolutely decimates our defense further, and we lose our draft capital. Do you know what our weakness is? Defense and prospects. Do you know our strengths? Offense. Literally the most counterproductive move possible

Value wise I think it’s actually pretty good. 3 firsts, a rental centre to replace this year and is 3rd league wide in goals, and a young top pairing defenseman. Only problem is, as you said, Matthews is untouchable. Also adding Hughes doesn’t make much sense as RD is a much bigger need than LD. So this is definitely a pass.

Nah, Vancouver should pass here. This is a lose lose trade. They lose their best defenseman and a lot of futures for a guy that could leave in 2 years. Both teams say no to this trade.

Did you miss where I said you shouldn't make the trade? You win it but your team still sucks

You did say that but you also said that it would make them better which isn't a given, not even in the short-term.

Doesn't matter, getting Matthews makes you win this trade. They shouldn't do it though because they should have a full rebuild but they still win the trade.
