OK if you think Meirer signs a 9.5m extension why the Leafs , please post a 23/24 roster with his 6.5m pay increase.
Sorry the Leaf can't do it without dismantling their roster. Just don't think there is much realistic when making such making such a trade.
PS. I terrible trade for the Leafs

Most, if not all teams, that would trade for Meier won't want to trade for him with an extension in place. They would rather take the risk and pay a lower cost. Chances are that any team adding him this year is probably doing so with the assumption that he's a rental (only Detroit, Seattle, and New Jersey would probably add him with the intention of signing him).

New Jersey gonna have Bratt to worry about along with Sharangovich, Zetterlund, Bastian, Mcleod, etc. I dont see them going and getting another expensive forward as while they do got cap they got guys to extend this and next year

Only team I could see trade and commit to him is Carolina.

It can be done (I think), but only if cap rises to $86.5M like Bettman said was possible. We’d Have a lot of players next year on entry level or around $1M deals. Samsonov would be gone (Kallgren or Will replacement); Bunting would be doubtful …
Also a Heavy price to pay but I’d consider it, especially for this year 🧐

Leafs don't have the salary cap to offer Timo Meier 8 x 9.5m You can forget about resigning William Nylander and Auston Matthews if this happens.

Winnipeg doesn't have the need or cap space for Kerfoot.

Fair enough, but I guess it really depends what they give up for him in NJ; perhaps they send one of those RFAs the other direction. Carolina is an interesting one, they are a team that could use him, but unless he's being had for cheap I don't see them giving up the assets required. I could see Carolina look to add him if he's still available before the draft assuming they still find that they need a scorer. We have yet to see how Pacioretty fits on their team.

Losing Bunting would be okay, but losing Samsonov would be a major loss unless Kallgren or Woll break out next year. If Murray falls off or gets injured that year, they would have no safety net. The cap could possibly go up even more than 4m, they did say at least 4m. The package is a hefty one that isn't worth it. They might as well trade Knies instead of giving up Niemela and Minten if they are getting Meier.

Yeah, a lot of moving parts but Meier is good enough to drive his own line; would easily give us the best top 9. Niemela would be a loss but prospects (even really good ones) can be hit or miss. Meier is proven game changer. Knies brings something we’ve always lacked (scoring power forward) ; Reilly, Sandin + Liligren will be 75% of top 4 for number of years so maybe Niemela loss is acceptable?
I think kallgren has shown me enough last year and this (started shakily but his last 3-4 games were really really good), I’d be comfortable with him backing up Murray.
But it’s a tough call ; that’s why dubas and Pridham and team get paid the big $

Isn't Meier a scoring power forward though? So, that really makes Knies more expendable than Niemela who can still fit in the top 4 with those other guys. Trading Minten doens't make much sense at all, that guy is probably the guy they drafted to be the 3C at the least and if they are lucky the 2C for when Tavares is done.

The way I see it is that Samsonov could be their future goalie for the next 4-5 years and if he's willing to sign for 4-4.5m I think they should extend him.

I'm sure, Pridham could find a way though to fit Meier, but it would require him to take something like 8m, but it really depends on what Matthews wants long-term and Nylander. I wouldn't mind them the Leafs acquiring Meier if they are giving up Robertson+2024 1st and 2025 1st+ Kerfoot (for cap), does SJ consider that? Probably not.

Sharks accept. Id prefer Moldenhauer over Minten though. Also Timo won't cost that much to re sign.
