Pens decline. Dont need a replacement for Tanger. He tried to skate today and Sully had to make sure he kept him off the ice.

I would take that trade for the Rangers.

Even with a 2nd involved. Low Risk, High Reward to bring in both of those guys. Would even up the 5th to a 4th and be fine with it.

Ya sorry bud but strokes are not a good sign and the medical staff will have to clear him to play not himself.

How many nhlers returned after having a stroke, the most recent stroke victim I remember is peverly and he retired not long after.

It would be silly of Pittsburgh to even considering playing him within the next month and would further prove that sports leagues care more about winning and money then players health

"The most rapid recovery usually occurs during the first three to four months after a stroke" lol i agree the NHL legal team would never allow him to play the next day after a stroke... imagine how much $$ in insurance they would need / if he got hit hard and died bc he was rushed back too quickly. He's more than likely done for the year if not career ended. stroke at the age of 35 isnt good esp when you have a family..

so you are going to replace 24 minutes a night w Smith? interesting thought. A team thats trying to win a cup w a core they just heavily invested in isnt going to replace their best Dman w Smith....theyll likely want an actual NHL level player but coool

Your kidding right?

Pettersson - Petry
Joseph - Rutta
Dumoulin - either Smith or Ruhwedel

Ruhwedel is an NHL dman and let's not forget that Smith led all rookie defenseman in points his rookie year

Smith was a one of the worse Dmen in the NHL his sophomore year.... if im the Penguins im looking for a legit top 4 replacement. Rutta / Ruhwedel are bottom pairing guys. Petry is a solid option but AGIAN you are missing your best Dmen and trying to squeeze 3rd pairing guys into a 20-22 minute role.

Are you kidding? you basically gave NJD and elite level Dmen for a 3rd and some magic beans that you hope might become good.

They wont be playing 20 minutes lol. Rutta played top pair in tampa so he can handle the extra ice time. Ruhwedel is a very solid 6th/7th dman as well. Trying to tell pens fans what's best for the team lol. I dont think ur a pens fan so please stick to what you know about your own

You clearly don’t know nothing lol I agree with Caps. Smith is a black hole defensively.

Also rutta played top pairing because he was line with Hedman and even then rutta only averaged about 16 minutes a night and regularly mcdonagh or Cernak were moved up to play with Hedman for certain match-ups.
Rutta is a 5-6 dman not a top paring guy and Pittsburgh has no dman Herman’s caliber to carry rutta on a top pair.

Ruhwedel also is a 6-7 dman especially for a cup contender more likely 7th dman. His advanced stats looked good last year but he also only matched up against 4th lines mostly playing very protected match-ups.

Outside of petry most your dman are way out of place.

Pettersson and dumolin are 2nd pairing guys
Joseph, rutta, smith are bottom pairing guys and ruhwedel is a 7th dman.

Pittsburgh’s defence is gonna get embarrassed and jarry is gonna have to play like 21-22 shestorkin if pitsburgh wants to make playoffs

Pettersson has been massively disrespected this year and its getting mad annoying. His defensive numbers are great this year and he deserves those top pair minutes. I said that Rutta can handle 2nd pair minutes which is what he will get with Tanger out. He did it in tampa so hes used to it. POJ has also been really good defensively this year as well and also deserves top 4 minutes. Pettersson is already playing top pair rn and POJ is already playing 2nd pair. Dumo looked terrible at the start of the season but playing him 3rd pair in a sheltered role with Rutta really helped. Pens defense was pretty good last night and we for sure shouldve come out with that win. I'm not worried about it at all. Sullivan has been through this plenty of times and let's not forget we won a cup without Tanger in the lineup. Not only will we be fine the team will be playing their hearts out for Tanger out there. So yes you clearly dont know enough about the pens. You shouldn't cause your a caps fan. So take my word for it as someone who studies this team and has watched 21 out of the 23 games this year. We pens fans know what's better for our team. And again, Sullivan is probably the best coach you could have in a situation like this as hes already had to go through it. He even spoke with the media today about Tanger and one question was "how are you going to address the lines and a possible replacement for Kris". Sullivan responded with basically this (not word for word exactly but basically same thing) "we have a deep team and we have guys that will need to put more effort in and I think this is a situation where guys have to step up. We have to work around it and I believe this team can step up". Hextall also spoke with media and said around the same thing. So thanks for your input but your talking to a pens fan who knows what this team needs.

You probably have to add more to the Boston trade...the third round pick definitely covers Hathaway's value, but getting nothing for taking on Reilly's bad contract would be stupid...

Don't know about great...I would say he's decent, but 3 mil for this year and next year for a decent defender is not worth it unless we get something else from the bruins as well
