22 Cole CAUFIELD
8 years, $63,000,000 ($7,875,000 AAV)
Receives the exact same deal as captain Nick Suzuki, showing that the Canadiens value him just as much as they value the captain.
54 Jordan HARRIS
3 years, $7,000,000 ($2,333,333 AAV)
Has played well in a second pair role, foreshadowing his ceiling if he can improve further.
49 Rafael HARVEY-PINARD
2 years, $1,700,000 ($850,000 AAV)
If veterans are traded, he could get a fourth line role within the length of the deal.
55 Michael PEZZETTA
2 years, $1,600,000 ($800,000 AAV)
Has shown a bit less of a physical presence than 2021-22, but is still a high-energy guy on the team. May spend some time in AHL in 2022-23 onwards.
56 Jesse YLONEN
1 year, $850,000 ($850,000 AAV)
Make or break year for him. He either cracks the bottom six or is waived and likely claimed (if not traded).
90 Anthony RICHARD
1 year, $800,000 ($800,000 AAV)
Extremely good in the minors so far, will get a slight raise from his current deal.
74 Nicolas BEAUDIN
1 year, $775,000 ($775,000 AAV)
League minimum for a guy who won't get much NHL ice time in 2022-23
82 Lucas CONDOTTA
1 year, $775,000 ($775,000 AAV)
Decent AHL presence, could maybe become a fourth line guy one day.
75 Nate SCHNARR
1 year, $775,000 ($775,000 AAV)
Seems like he'll cap as a top six guy in the AHL. Currently playing like a middle six AHLer.
13 Mitchell STEPHENS
1 year, $775,000 ($775,000 AAV)
Provides some experience and mentorship for some of the younger guys as they spend time in the AHL.
91 Sean MONAHAN
1 year, $3,750,000 ($3,750,000 AAV)
A mentor middle six stopgap as the Canadiens let Filip Mesar mature in the AHL and Juraj Slafkovsky on the third line.
25 Kyle OKPOSO
1 year, $2,000,000 ($2,000,000 AAV)
A middle six mentor & leader role for a very young Canadiens team.
Rumours surfaced around the 2022 NHL Draft that the NY Islanders may have had interest in Josh Anderson. Reportedly, they may have wanted to move the 13th overall pick for him, but as we saw, that did not happen (they moved it for Romanov, which is still mildly confusing to me. How's he doing in Long Island?). Maybe they're still interested, and because of the influx of rookies in the Canadiens' lineup, Montreal decides to move on from him, and acquire a first round pick.
The Flyers may be in search for a second line centre if Sean Couturier is expected to be out for longer than a season, and if the Flyers intend to make the playoffs again. They decide to acquire a centre to fill that role behind Kevin Hayes for a draft pick.
It's looking like with the breakouts of multiple young defensemen with the Canadiens (Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Kovacevic, Barron, Hutson), there may not be a long-term spot for Norlinder. He seems like he'll cap out as a bottom four defenseman, but a new team may be a good idea for him.
I believe that if Kaiden Guhle shows he can be a top pairing defenseman, and Jordan Harris can be a second pairing defenseman, this is a move that should be made. On defense, most of the better young dmen are on the left (Guhle, Harris, Kovacevic, Xhekaj, Barron in order), so swapping the top left shot for a similar caliber right shot would make sense to me. However, I'm not sure how Avs fans would feel about this because they have Toews, Girard, and Byram on the left... but they could put Girard on the right and then bring him back to the left if Toews leaves.
Can be moved to any team looking for a decent bottom four option on defense. With the emergence of Justin Barron on the team, there's also no more room for Savard on this very young blueline. The Canadiens add to their future draft capital for when they go all in in the coming years.
You obviously put far too much thought into this for my simple answer to be fair to you, (whether the thinking is correct or not), but the Avs decline both trades.
If the islanders actually wanted to move the 13 overall pick for Josh Anderson, Hughes would have done it in a heartbeat. The isles were never interested in Anderson, he wouldn't even crack the isles top 9 right now, the guy has 7 pts in 20 games.
Why do the Avs do the Matheson trade? I don’t really see the benefit for them (and I am lower on Manson/his contract than most).
Manson has a full NTC as well, he already blocked his NTC for toronto at last seasons deadline. He was torn between going back to the ducks or re-upping with the avs, which eventually he decided he did want to stay in denver. cant see him waiving, especially for Montreal after all that
First, I don’t see Edmundson garnering a 1st round pick; maybe a 2nd but who knows.
Second, not clear Leafs need to upgrade D (2LW or 3C seem like bigger needs to me), but if they do it’s RHD they will target. We’re set at LHD this year and next

Got a source for that?
I love to hear that players don't waive for TOR, but never see the evidence.

I'm perfectly okay with being wrong.
I remember hearing it on one of the pods either D.F or Jeff Merek or 32 thots. If I remember correctly, it was more of not being so far away from his expecting wife or new born than not wanting to play for Toronto. Also Avs were a better fit and chance at a cup(1).
Your trades are wildly optimistic and unrealistic. Yet I do appreciate the time and effort put into this, most people here don’t think about anything at all.

I guess Friedman
Elliotte Friedman on 31T podcast: “Somebody told me that TOR is on Manson’s no trade list. That doesn’t mean that it can’t happen, that just means you have to…if you really wanna do it, you’ve gotta work it a bit.”Has a M-NTC & submitted a 12-team no trade list.#LeafsForever

I don't think the Islanders ever realistically had any interest in Anderson. I'm not sure why there'd be any interest in him. He's never hit 50 points in the NHL or even the AHL.
Romanov has been really good for us. I think he's still finding his offensive game a little bit, but his defense has been on point. He's had some really good hits and uses his stick well. Right now, he's the perfect partner for Dobson. If he develops his offense at all, he has Niklas Kronwall potential.
I think that was a great trade for everyone. Isles accelerated their 1st round pick into a 22-year-old defenseman they needed. The Habs used it to get Kirby Dach, who seems to be really happy in Montreal.
