Horvat is tied for 2nd in the league in goals and is over a ppg. He’s getting at least 8 imo

Bo Horvat is a very good player and certainly deserves a raise, but let's not get carried away by a career year. This year he has put up 1.04 ppg, good for 49th in the league.
So far in his career he has averaged a respectable 0.66 ppg and he wins 53.8% of his face offs. He also has shown that he is a team leader.
I would suggest that he is worth a little more than Kadri, so about$7.5M/year sounds about right.
The Canucks cannot afford to be stuck with another overpaid player like Miller or Myers.

This is a reasonable take, but as Kadri proved (paying him till he is 39!) teams will make unreasonable offers to centers. I also think some team, maybe DET, is going to be convinced giving him 8-8.5 won’t be bad cap wise in a few years.

I respectfully disagree, I think that it will take more, I think that if horvat gets 40 goals, and takes the most draws in the league and wins almost 60% he is going to command at least 8x8, and Kuzmenko will probably be a 60 point guy and usually 60 point guys get about 6x6. thats 14M for the 2 guys and then you have to sign Bear, Hog, Dermott, and still upgrade the blueline. I think we need to start to monitize wingers starting this deadline. it sucks to say but I think that if we can get cost certainty this spring on the two bug UFA's then we keep them, but if not, trade them and dont look back

It's pretty clear though that the status quo isn't good enough, why not make a change and rebuild properly.

We’re a quarter way into the season. 0 guaruntee he stays in 2nd place all year. Lee tied for 7th in the league in goals scored in 2018, one year before signing

Anders lee scored 40 goals in 2018-2019, 7th in the league and more than captain John Tavares. Then Tavares walked for Toronto and lee was named captain. Then he signed for 8.59% of the cap. Very comprable to Horvat in terms of leadership, goal scoring, and age.

For kuzmenko, Hyman came of back to back 60 point pace seasons signed 5.5 x 7. Burakovsky had a 61 point season and Seattle signed him 5.5 x 5. Ryan Strome scored at or close to a 60 point pace 3 years in a row and signed 5x5. Mason marchment scored 47 points in 54 games and got 4.5 x 4. Heck, Mikheyev scored a 32 goal, 50 point pace last year while being a very good defensive player and he got 4.75x4.

5.5 x 4 for a player with little track record and 60ish points is right in line with comps. If he breaks 70 maybe we see 6

Imo you’re over estimating what the cost will be. Reminds of when people said petey could break 11 million in a long term deal, or that miller will sign the zibenajad deal, or Boeser won’t sign for less than his qualifying rate.

I get that but you got to look at the high end comps, couturier and hertl for horvat and even now hintz all got 8m+ at around the same age as bo, Petey could have broken 11 on an 8 year, Miller was 500k and 1 year shy of the zibanejad deal and boeser parlayed his contract into a 6.65. I use these same comps to show you that it is better to error on the side of caution because players will get paid.

500k I'll give to you, but I dont think that we can do it with just one cap dump

This is a song and dance way to common on here. You'll use his hot start as a way to ask for the moon in a trade but then say it's just a hot start so his contract value is way less. Every goal he scores is going to cost you more in his next deal. With Hintz signing and the cap going up the next two years, you are not getting him for less than 8. I would say 9 isn't out of the realm of possibilities.
