Bs only move - Jeannot

Created by: NICHILO14
Team: 2022-23 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 30, 2022
Published: Nov. 30, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
May need to include a higher pick than a 3th (maybe the 2025 2nd depending on market value). Nonetheless, trading for Jeannot gets you a younger/cheaper upgrade over smith who can slot in a 3rd/4th line role. Also relieves cap space for Reilly to come back up as a 7th D over Stralman. This is the only move they'd need to make before playoffs IMO

Yeah, that's not close for Jeannot. Cap dump alone probably costs a 3rd.

He is since he's of no interest.

According to who? If he was placed on waivers, you're saying he wouldn't be claimed? I highly doubt it

I don't think for a second that he'd be claimed at his cap hit.

You’re both right….and wrong.

A team not having interest in a player doesn’t make him a cap dump necessarily.

That said, why would the preds have interest in smith? To them, it’s just a salary.

I think it will take a first to get jeannot.

He's not of any interest to anyone. Claimed on waivers is not a good argument for establishing value. Nobody is going to pay you for him so you'll either waive him or pay to move him.

It makes him a cap dump in this situation solely because NSH has less than 0 interest. Therefore, we would need to be compensated for taking on a player we don't want.

I’m agreeing with you bud. Settle down.

A far better solution is moving smith to a different team in a separate transaction

NSH declines. They don’t trade Jeannot for any payment like that

Fair enough. I think the preds could have interest for Smith... the Bruins could add retention (-1.5M), they can play him in the top 6 which will give them flexibility. If out of the playoffs, flip at TDL for a 4th, 3rd (or maybe a 2nd) or roll with him in the playoffs and the money comes off the books next year + picks/prospects

Nashville doesn’t look like a playoff team.

When someone agrees with you, and you repeat why you’re right, it generally comes off as combative.

In that case, flip at TDL...but i think Poille always has his playoffs in mind

“We don’t want this piece, but maybe we can flip it,” isn’t how NHL GMs think. Try again.

I think that's how a lot of GMs think actually, especially one's who are in or very close to a rebuild (e.g., Dadonov, Monahan, Kulikov)

You realize calgary had to use a first round pick to move monahan, right?

Yes, but tell me they didn’t think Mohanan had an upside which they could potentially leverage at the next TDL. A 6M cap hit does require a 1st to get rid of, not arguing that

No. They thought they were getting a first round pick because they were getting a first round pick.

Seriously?

I like Smitty - but he's riding the pine for a reason.

re: ""Hustle w/ NO HANDS"" - is just hustle and that costs league minimum.

1 - why do Preds move him?

2 - probably going to take a 1st without the salary dump , zboril and dipietro aren’t moving the needle.

Jeannot is pretty much not available for blood or money. Scoring power forward types like him are increasingly rare and the Preds rely on him quite a bit. And there's literally nothing in that package that'd be of interest regardless of who or what the trade is for.

That doesn’t move the needle for Jeannot. needs at least a 1st & actually good prospects to entice Nashville, this doesn’t even get them to pick up the phone
