A fair amount more value than that. That's a very lowball offering

The reported return that’s expected is supposed to be less than what DeBrincat brought in. SJ would be getting a late 1st, and one of our top D prospects (who is putting on one hell of a show in the KHL recently).
Maybe they have to add to this to make it work, but it won’t be a lot more if less than DeBrincat is the ceiling

7th overall and a pick in the 30s is better

SJ fans are very misguided on the return for Meier. If 80pt Fiala got a first and brick faber, you’re not getting a different return.

Here, you’re getting a first and a 20th overall pick in shakir. Be real.

Yea, but that’s not the expected return. The expected return is less than that.
Here you’re getting a late 1st, a 1st round pedigree player, and an NHLer that was pushed out of the lineup in NJ because the forward group is stacked. That’s more than what Fiala got, and less than what DeBrincatt got.

Not expected, a reporter wrote a column guessing at his worth.

Yea, a reputable reporter, with a good track record, and enough supporting it to justify the lower value. This isn’t Tony Marinara with the Habs. Frank doesn’t typically put high profile rumors out there for clicks, even though it may seem like it at first. NJ fans saw that first hand woth Jesper Bratt this summer when he had him on the trade list, even though we had heard of a long term contract being almost signed.

“What can they get in return? I think they have to take a notch below the Alex DeBrincat deal that the Chicago Blackhawks took this summer. Not only was DeBrincat’s qualifying offer less, but you had one more season of DeBrincat on a somewhat reasonable deal, whereas already from the jump, you’re getting Meier as a rental.

The Blackhawks were able to get a first-, second-, and third-round pick, but you see No. 7 overall from Ottawa as pretty high up in the draft. you’re probably dealing with teams that are way later in the first round, probably closer to the second-round pick they got from the Sens at No. 39 overall. Then you factor in what happens next, which is that maybe somebody treats him as a pure rental, but then the prices are probably even lower than that.”
