That’s a whole lot of retention on the leading Norris candidate for…a useless Vrana, underperforming and hurt Zadina, a depth defenseman, 1 decent prospect and a 2nd.

How about no

Useless Vrana lmao. Dude scores at will. When he’s back from the player assistance program, he’s going to be lighting the league up again.

Not a great haul for sure. Nobody is taking on that full contract regardless of how well he is playing but, yeah, the return is pretty light all things considered.

If Vrana wasn’t in the mysterious absence that he is in right now, I would be opposed to the deal but given that, I wouldn’t mind it for the wings.

Thanks. I agree that Vrana will come back and still be a 25 goal scorer. Plus, tradable contract if Sharks want to flip him.

The idea was to creat flexibility for Sharks.
Vrana is quality and will be back.
Zadina got hurt blocking a shot and is soon to return… he’s not deceased lol. He won’t live up to draft status, but he’s 23, under control, and will still likely have a mostly useful NHL career, but needs new scenery.

I probably agree the offer could be improved. But disagree it’s as off base as you claim.
How would you improve the offer?
2nd to a 1st?

I just see zero guarantee Vrana comes back for sure, you never know with that sort of stuff. Zadina hurt, sure could come but to what 0 points in 9 games? I know he was drafted high but I would have to think his value is in the toilet. Just not enough value to me for the leading Norris candidate retained to $7.5 mil. Maybe San Jose retains $2.5 mil and gets a better piece in there and Arizona takes on $1.5 mil a year and get Zadina for it. Idk the Karlsson situation is a rare thing and tough to value.

What sort of stuff? If you have some inside intel on Vrana the rest of us don’t please do tell. Otherwise, you’re probably off base.
Karlsson trade is tough to value, I agree.
I like your idea a lot about using Arizona as a third team.
Disagree with clicking on Zadina’s name, looking at the point total and coming to that conclusion.

I don't think Karlsson is needed at all in Detroit. This team isn't going to be a play off team this year. Giving up all those assets just not worth it. We need a better defensively responsible dman over an offensive guy in my opinion.

The return is good but realistically sj isn't going to retain that much. It's not about the return, it's about handcuffing the franchise for years to come. Grier isn't going to risk his job with a Karlsson trade Who by the way has a ton of support from the team owner. Karlsson is very likely staying in SJ until the contract is up. We may not be winning games but Erik sells tickets.

I don't think the sharks would commit to this just because if we retain 4 mil and sign who ever we get in return for 3 mil for example, that is a 7mil player. I feel karlssons contract is only 1.5-2.5 off value and with the cap going up I don't think the sharks would be forced into a scenario like this
