The idea that caufield plays a 200 foot game is the funniest thing I've heard in some time.

He does nothing but shoot

Thanks for your opinion. If you are open to learning about why you are wrong, I invite you to watch highlights from Montreal vs Vancouver this year and checkout his awesome forecheck on Tyler Myers.

He shoots a whole lot yeah, but he is also good on zone entries, dangling around the half wall and and he has a very active stick on the backcheck.

He played defense one time. You convinced me.

The upside for the Canadiens is probably what would nix the deal for the Rangers, there would need to be something going the other way or some sort of conditional picks.

Well we have seen how Dach has worked out so far so this could be really good for mtl. There has to be something added like picks like said above. Pretty good idea.

What would you have in mind? NYR get a 1st pick if Laf or Kak score more than X points the next year?

I find Suzuki and Caufield disappear in games against larger players like the Sabres. I love both of those players, but I don't know if I wanna bet on the health of a 5'7 player for 8 years. I'm sure the Habs lock him up though.

This is just because Laf is French, right?

When the other team has the puck it's defense.

TB did pretty well with the health of a 5'7" guy y'all know well.

That's very risky for the Habs but if they believe in Lafreniere (and Kakko), of course you do it. It really depends what your scouting department is able to project

I was going to comment on that

Among the 407 forwards with at least 100 mins at ES, he ranks :

CA/60 : 183th
SA/60 : 226th
GA/60 : 398th
xGA/60 : 405th
SCFA/60 : 340th
HDCA/60 : 295th

That's well below average. Sure, these are On-Ice stats so maybe it's because Suzuki and Dach/Monahan/Anderson are terrible defensively...

No sir. It's because our EVP Jeff Gorton scouted and picked both of them and they were drafted #1 & #2 OA. I do like that Laf is a "Gars de chez nous though". I am betting that they are being mismanaged and not that they are not good.

Listen, the team has a negative goal against differential sure. They are playing 3-4 ROOKIE DEFENSEMEN per night and their starting goalie was kicked out of his last position as a backup. The best non-rookie defensemen on the team is Savard who was a 3rd pair guy on a cup-winning team. I would not comment on individual statistics here...

It doesn't paint the whole picture but it certainly paints a significant part

Advanced stats and eye test suggests that Cole Caufield is nowhere near being a guy who "plays a 200ft game"

I mean, I'm sure he gives an honest effort but in the end, he's mostly a shooter

Great. In that case you'd make the argument that the Seattle Kraken would be crazy to trade Adam Larsson for Victor Hedman right? I mean just look at their GSVA stats...

Where did I mention that the Habs should trade Caufield for a defensive forward?

Completely different subject, I was only talking about the statement made about Caufield being a 200 ft player. It doesn't hold the reality road.

And for the record, Larsson is elite at ES defense
