Ah the usual, give me your star player and we'll shovel some **** down your throat in return.

Not that these aren't good pieces, but the only way we trade DeBrincat is if we get a top-four defenceman coming back + more.

this is pretty great for Ottawa tbh. You could easily flip one of the picks and another smaller asset for a top 4 defenseman lol

Voit and Minten are lighting it up ands Niemela is basically NHL ready, Kerfoot is just a throw in and two firsts. I get it if it doesnt fit the timeline but the value is incredible

Sens should do this! Then trade one of the two firsts back to Leafs for the Cats RFA rights. No way Leafs can afford to resign him. The other first and the 3 prospects to rent Cat for the rest of this season.

Sens take this and run.

Debrincat is NOT the player the Leafs need! They need sandpaper! Go after Timo Meier.

You can't just flip a prospect for a top 4 d, if you could Ottawa would have done it already.

Ottawa doesn't want to give up their prospects or picks probably, they could easily just trade Niemela and those two Toronto 1sts for Chychrun.

Chychrun+Minten+Voit for DeBrincat isn't bad at all. If they go for a cheaper option than Chychrun then they can benefit a lot more from that trade.

Ottawa spent ...

the 7th overall pick in 2022
the 39th overall pick in 2022
a 3rd round pick in 2024

on DeBrincat ...

Ottawa is receiving in this trade ...

Two 1st round picks in 2023/2024 with no conditions or lottery protection
Fraser Minten (38th overall pick in 2022)
Topi Niemela (64th overall pick in 2020)
Ty Voit (153rd overall pick in 2021)
Pending UFA Alex Kerfoot

for DeBrincat ...

When you add it all up, this is a home run for Ottawa.

My one piece of advice to @sens65 is to not bite the hand that feeds you.

Even if it's from an arch-rival like the Leafs.

Ottawa accepts.

Those first round picks will be in the 17-25 range.

Minton and Voit are nowhere near being impactful NHL players. Niemela is a good prospect, Kerfoot has basically no value.

Value wise it might be good for Ottawa, but its not what Ottawa needs.

DeBrincat will want an extension with a cap hit of at least 9 million.

Also, draft picks are the most tradable currency in the NHL and every other professional sports league.

With just one of the 1st round picks acquired here plus a couple of other assets, we will be better able to trade for a Top 4 RD that we have coveted for so long.

Ottawa accepts.

If Debrinkcat doesn't want to be reasonable with a long-term extension, then this is a good move, exactly not for Kerfoot. IT would have to be a legit top 6 player or top 4 RD, high end prospect, and a first minium. The leafs First isn't going to be a high one so it doesn't carry as much value.
