I know there might have been one or two wings fans that would do that trade, I'm not one of them. Quinn Hughes is an exceptional talent but I would rather see how Edvinnson turns out plus that first rounder is likely a lottery pick so not trading that.
I wouldn’t so easily label our 23’ pick as a “likely” lottery pick. More than a quarter of the way into the season it is projected to be, in fact, not a lottery pick. Not to mention, adding a player like Quinn Hughes to this team theoretically diminishes the prospect of the lottery.
So what if that pick is the 21st+ overall pick + Edvinsson?
To be clear, I’d be equally fine making or not making the trade. I think it’s very even. But with that being said, how many defenseman are playing in the NHL that are more dynamic than Quinn Hughes?
Could Edvinsson be in that category at some point? Maybe. But in reality, history would indicate that it isn’t likely. Hughes is, now - and he’s what, 23? Signed long term at a very fair price.
When you consider the depth we have at LHD in the pipeline, it is arguable a case could be made for and against making a trade based on the near embarrassment of riches we have there. So, that’s why I’m mostly impartial but, leaning towards pulling the trigger.
Seider with Hughes would be pretty insane.
