Why would we target so many 2025 picks? As for the trades

Canucks easily decline
Sharks (and maybe also Canucks?) decline
Canucks absolutely decline
Canucks decline (maybe if it was 2023 picks)
Canucks decline (maybe Dallas also? Not sure if they can afford everyone there long term)
Canucks decline
Canucks decline
Caps decline

I think you can do better with Bo Horvat.

The JT Miller & Karlsson trade is creative but again selling yourself short. By the time he ends up in Toronto he’ll be at $4m AAV, and he’s worth WAY more than what you’re getting at that cost. You could even argue at $4m he’s worth more than he was the last time he was traded.

Horvat-to-the-Jackets is quite simple. If he's not going to extend for under $8m/year with us, then it doesn't matter what the trade package is because we're not paying anything for a rental this year. And if the Canucks try to go "oh, okay, you want him extended, then the price becomes..." in any way, the Jackets walk away.

It's not really a productive conversation anymore.

These are such bad trades for every team that doesn’t play home games in Vancouver

I mean kudos for being creative but no team much less 2 are going to retain on guys for 5-7 years and I would love to watch a GM tell an owner that the plan is to eat $30+ million in salary.

Truth is Canucks are in a tough spot:
1/ lots of money committed to guys on long term deals & so far, they have not been good enough - Miller, Boesser, Demko, Mikheyev
2/ A few (pretty much) impossible contracts to move - OEL, Myers
3/ No real prospects of note coming up
4/ tricky free agents to deal with - Horvat, Kuzmenko, Petey (2024),
New mgmt team will earn their money this TDL & off season. Won’t be easy

SJ not interested in Miller. He's going to decline faster then EK65 will plus its 4 more years in contract.

What are you on? Canucks are getting fleeced in so many of these. Those first round picks alone aren't enough to dump Seguin

Looking back at this, I’m noticing every first except for the Quinn z Hughes deal is for 2025. I take back what I said. The only fleece by Vancouver is the Quinn Hughes deal. I know it’s taking on the Gallagher contract, but even Erik Karlsson in his prime didn’t cost that, and he’s a righty.
