The cost of every player the caps should trade

If you’re taking the full cap hit of 3.5 million, I’d be happy to get a fourth. If you want us to retain half, I’d be asking for a third. Ellet’s value is tough to pinpoint, but I think he’d be a valuable add for cheap.

Honestly, the caps should be asking for a first for Sheary. He’s currently on pace for 28 goals this season and has a cap hit of only 1.5 million. If you have the caps retain half of that, that’s a player who can play on any line and produce and makes league minimum essentially. Sheary’s value has only gone up and the caps should be shopping him because they absolutely will get a first for him. There should be a bidding war between cap-strapped contenders.
      3.
      WSH
Power play specialist who is great at zone entries and not much else. I’d ask for a fourth
        4.
        WSH
Can PK and be a real big presence in the bottom 6. Underrated shot, can definitely produce some offense. I’d ask for a third
          5.
          WSH
Waiver fodder. If we got a seventh I’d be happy
            6.
            WSH
Arguably the best defenseman the caps have right now. Consistent, solid, incredible skater and puck mover. I’m asking for a first round pick minimum, could argue he’s worth a first and a prospect. Caps can retain half
              7.
              WSH
I think the caps should hold onto Orlov if they can extend him. If they want to move him, I’m asking for a first and a decent prospect. A top pair, physical, puck moving defenseman is going to make a huge difference for a lot of teams. We can retain half, so his cap hit becomes 2.55m

Pretty on the ball. Sheary is the one I’m having a hard time trying to guess fair value. I would be shocked if we got a 1st for him, but a 2nd is where I’m at. Orlov and Jensen can definitely get 1st rounders and more, especially with retention

I really think Sheary gets a first at minimum. It’s one thing to be on nearly a 30 goal pace, but the biggest asset is his cap hit. He’s going to be one of the cheapest options out there in terms of money for a team looking to add a scoring winger.

The players I think that would get the caps great value in trades especially if they retain is easily Orlov, Jensen, and Sheary. Imagine having on your team a top pairing defencemen that you’d only have to pay around $2.5M, and top 4 RHD in this market at $1.25M, and a top 6 winger at $750k. That alone would make them all the more valuable. Especially for teams looking for top 4 defencemen. They’ve been getting traded for a lot of pretty Pennies recently.

Generally agree except for Sheary. Love him, but he is neither a truly elite offensive player like Giroux nor a "big body" like Foligno that return 1sts. I think the Rakell deal from last year is the best comp, where the Ducks got back salary filler, a B/C level prospect, and a 2nd.

I really think that you’re undervaluing Sheary. He’s been arguably the third best forward on the team behind Ovi and Strome. I think if he was making 3-3.5M, he’d only return a second. But his cap hit is 1.5M and teams are still dealing with the aftermath of the flat cap the last couple seasons. If the caps retain half and make his cost league minimum, he has to return a first imo.

part of the reason the team is not very good is because he's been their 3rd best forward ... once again I love sheary but he is not elite. People also drastically overrate the impact of cap hit on deadline moves. Super easy to retain, trade back salary filler, know in depth about your injury/LTIR situation, or move other things around. A second is a very good return!
