There is no preventing arguments here lol non-MTL fans are going to pile on about Anderson being negative value and a cap dump

COL needs forwards really bad. I see Sheary and Eller as good fits

Boston declines.

No use for Eller.

Under the cap as is, rather hold onto Reilly for playoff depth.

Smith/3rd for Hathaway we’re in.

Counting stats, analytics, and the eye test, all suggest he is not good at hockey.

MTL trade makes no sense for Washington. End up with a much worse player and don't actually save much money.

I assume Eller would add solid depth for cheap but if not Boston I’m sure we can shop him elsewhere

Explain stat wise the difference between Wilson and Anderson. If one is drastically better I’ll admit you are right. Ready go

I see value in adding another big body guy with upside. I see less value in having a having Carlson at a higher cap hit. Imo I think Capitals can sign Orlov and Jensen for his cap hit. That means more to me

This year, Anderson has 7 points in 22 games and a 43% (!!!) xG. Last year he had 32 in 69 games and a better but still bad 47% xG. His highest ever point total was in 2018 when he had 47 in 82, and besides that year and last year, he has only cracked 30 points one other time.
Last year Wilson had 52 points in 72 games with a 54% xG. He has put up more than 30 points in each of the last 5 years, including two over 40 and one over 50.

Of course this proposed trade isn't between Anderson and Wilson, it is between Anderson and Carlson. Carlson has been bad this year, and will probably be overpaid for the rest of his contract. He is still, however, a top-pair defender in the NHL, something that is much more valuable than an overpaid 3rd liner.

B’s have zero cap space, literally, and Eller would sit in the press box.

Rather have the depth at D when center is set, and 2 other centers playing wing every day as it is. Another center is the last thing they need.

My point is Anderson is a slightly worse version of Wilson. I would love to add that type of player to this roster. Anderson has talent and if he can find his game Washington has a 2 headed monster w him and Wilson in the top 6. Carlson is easily replaced by Jensen or Orlov who over in Russia played RS. Opens up 2m + that can be used towards resigning Orlov or Jensen. If Washington wants to be a top team again we need to have a better #1 Dman. Ffs Shultz looks better than Carlson atm

I would trade the 2023 second to rent part of a season of Nick Jensen but wouldn't add all of Jordan Spence's career to the deal.

Imo Jensen easily gets a 1st but I did a great prospect + 2nd for him. LA has too many RSD (worded poorly but area they have depth) so I imagine he or they other kid names starts w a g would be my leading candidates.

I agree with you completely that judging by past years' experience, Jensen gets a first plus, but as a philosophical matter I don't believe in trading prospects for rentals, and I think that Rob Blake is of the same mind.

Anderson is significantly worse than Wilson, and what makes Wilson unique is that a slightly worse version of him is just a 4th liner. He's 28 and has been a full time NHLer for 7 years, he's not going to "find his game" in Washington. If you want someone who plays a somewhat similar style to Wilson just resign Brown -- I'm sure he will be cheap after missing the entire year!

I love Orlov and Jensen, and they are two of the most consistently underrated defenseman of the past ~4 years. They cannot replace what Carlson does. The caps need a #1D to compete but Orlov and Jensen are not #1Ds and almost certainly will not morph into one at this stage of their careers, with Carlson there is at least a chance he can regain the form that he showed not even one year ago.

Why would the Kings trade a young right defenseman and draft choice for an old defenseman who is a free agent at the end of the season?
