Vatanen Injury Trade

Created by: Kiekenapp
Team: 2017-18 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 1, 2017
Published: Jun. 1, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
EXPLANATION-

Alright you keyboard warriors let me explain myself before you "know it alls" rip me up.

Vatanen- So with this trade this helps both teams. Gives Detroit a Top4 D man with a reasonable contract. Even though he is injured and will be into next season it still allows them to build a team since they don't need his services right away.

Cogliano - As much as i love Colgiano since he is one of my favorite ducks players since he works his tail off. Unfortunately this is a business. He doesn't perform at a high enough level offensively. We need more scoring since we were basically last in the league in scoring and PP/PK.

PROTECTION LIST-
Getzlaf
Perry
Kesler
Rakell
Silfverberg
Eaves
Tatar

Lindholm
Manson
Fowler

Detroit wants Fowler since he is Michigan native plus we would give more up for him if we can sign him long term, and there is nothing saying he will stay with the duck when his contract expires

He's already in discussion with the ducks to re-sign.. Can't sign him yet until July 1st

Why don't you wait till after the expansion draft to sign Eaves then you don't have to protect him

Because Las Vegas can sign him and that can count as an Expansion Draft Selection

The only way Patrick Eaves signs for so little coming off of a 30+ goal season is if the Ducks are the only team he wants to play for (he'll also want a lot more term than that). If that's the case then you can wait until after the expansion draft to sign him. Otherwise you might have to almost double that number for him because he's certainly going to look to cash out after his breakout season. Don't hold your breath on either scenario. I think Eaves has played his last game as a Duck.

Vatanen for Tatar is a good trade though. I feel like Sami for Nyquist is realistic as well. I'd prefer a guy with a contract already so we know what we're getting salary-wise. Either scenario keeps Cogs in the fold as well.
