Not much since Mantha isn't playing well since he is in WSH and his contract is costly. You could probably ship them Blackwood and a 2nd for him and it will help them to sign someone else this summer

Yeah, but Josh Anderson is out there...ripe for the picking I heard...will only cost 2023 1st+Holtz+Marino+Bratt (only slightly more than Eichel, because he hits).

Agreed. I hate using "change of scenery", but it'd probably be a good jump start for Mantha for the duration of his contract.

his underlying numbers are quite good. I want to track down his microstats from last year but can't get on A3Z from work lol

Yeah, I've always liked him. Up and down production, but he's a pretty efficient hockey player. Role kinda got diminished after a bit in Washington for some reason...assuming it was a result of the injuries and losing his spot to someone else.

are you kidding? 7 points in 20 plus games STARTS with the Hughes brothers. We can talk from there. I dont know if you heard but he's big and strong and every team has been begging for him for the past 3 trade deadlines (which is why he hasn't been traded)

You drive a hard bargain, sir. I'll add Holtz and the 1st in the spirit of generosity.

I'll anti-retain 5 mil, because he's obviously worth more. You owe us 5M cap space now.

Caps should trade Mantha to Montreal...who would probably give Slafkovsky++ for him.

Mantha is a really tough one for us Caps fans. He has SO MUCH potential and talent, but is totally inconsistent. Surrounded by good players, I truly think he can produce. But right now (and for the majority of the season), Lavy has him playing on the third line with a revolving door (due to injuries), Eller, and then Mantha on the right. That is a pretty brutal for any player (specifically an offensive minded one) imo.

I will say - last game (or two ago) he had just over 10 min of ice time so maybe Caps management is growing tired of his inconsistency? Just a guess.

Blackwood would probably not intrigue the Caps, but maybe a 2nd and a prospect (B- propsect)? Could also go with a depth player who is being squeezed out of the lineup right now (specifically a defender maybe)? I just don't know what is in NJ pipeline for players.

That being said - I do not think the Caps move him, unless they commit to a TOTAL rebuild (which won't happen with Ovi being on the team).

I could be way wrong and other Caps fans might disagree...What do you guys think?

I’m gonna put all the blame on Lavi for Mantha’s inconsistency. What is he supposed to do when his line mates are Eller and Johansson? He should be on a line with Strome and Ovechkin. The way Mantha played with strome in the preseason and early on in the regular season was great. Put them back together and he could easily be putting up 60+ points. His chemistry with Strome and Strome’s with ovechkin would be a deadly first line.

I mean we got VV and Siegenthaler as undervalued players from the Caps, who’s to say Mantha isn’t the next?

I would consider it a classic case of misuse of talent. Mantha shined on the 2nd line when given the opportunities, but now that he’s paired with an offensive anchor and someone who shouldn’t be tasked with being anything more than support, it’s gotta be hard for him to produce as he should. I’d hesitate to move him until we at least get to see him receive some 2nd line minutes, preferably with Strome and Milano/Oshie so we can see his true play. I agree with the point about Blackwood, and if add that it doesn’t make much sense for Washington in their current state, as well as adding unneeded salary that would have to be moved if Backstrom is to return.

Maybe he gets moved if the offer is too perfect, but I can’t see him leaving any time soon. At the very least, I’m sure he’ll be the latest player for fans to scapegoat.

Don't think he will be moved at the deadline because without someone else they know could take his place Caps couldn't risk him leaving without getting a 1st back, and they certainly wouldn't retain for multiple years. At the same time, I see no reason why any team would take the risk on a guy who is a solid but overpaid player that has two years left on his deal.

In the offseason, I could definitely see a Bjorkstrand-like return of a 2nd if the Caps suddenly have the opportunity to sign a Kuzmenko, Horvat (though I hope they don't), Pasta type player. Caps made the right decision in net and are committed to Kuemper and Lindgren for the foreseeable future so Blackwood is a non-starter.
