Not a Flames fan, but do me a favor: go look at the Flames' cap page, and look at how much cap they have available for next year.

Now let me know how they're going to fit all $5.5M of Josh Anderson without moving someone.

We can argue about whether or not Josh Anderson has value and what that value is, but I think everyone can agree that Josh Anderson is not the type of player that you put yourself in a situation where you *need* to dump someone else to get under the cap.

I know! Lucic would probably have to come to mtl. I don’t care about that. I just want to have opinion on the prospects

Not talking about this year - talking about 23-24. Calgary already has $81.7M in cap obligations for next year with 10 F/6 D/2 G under contract. Even if you think the cap jumps to $86.5M they *still* would need to clear at least $750K to fit Anderson. And that would be a 19 man roster. I just don't see a way to fit Anderson on to the Flames without Montreal retaining way more than they would want to, or with the Flames having to dump a significant amount of cap.

It would be difficult that’s why I said it won’t happen. I just want opinions on prospects

Poirier would be my personal preferred one if the trade was 100% happening and we had the choice which to trade

Still like the upside on him. But, Hughes would probably want a forward. I put Poirier there since I rate him highly

Calgary's pipeline is pretty top-heavy, and these three forwards are probably their best assets. Coronato was picked #13OA in the 2021 draft, so I think he's too high-value to be traded for Josh Anderson. Jakub Pelletier and Connor Zary are both PPG players in the AHL who are close to NHL ready - that plus the fact that they're still on their ELCs would make them insanely valuable to a team as capped-out as the Flames are. Poirier has looked very good in his first taste of pro action so while I think the Flames would put a high value on him, he's probably the most attainable of these 4.

I will argue that even if you ignore the cap, I don't think Anderson is a great fit on the Flames - I don't know if you'd consider him anything more than a 3rd liner on this team - who does he push out of the Top 6? Mayyyyybe Dillon Dube?

I agree. I don’t think any team should go for him. I heard New Jersey is interested, but I doubt that

He has not been linked to the flames by any legitimate sources in 3 years.

Poirier is the only prospect there that I would even remotely consider moving for JA

In Quebec media yes. But, like I said it won’t happen I just want to have opinions on prospects

The big problem is the cap hit/term. Every team that has cap room to add Anderson is probably not a team that's looking for a veteran guy like him, and every team that could get value out of him doesn't have room under the cap for him. I don't think he's a bum, but I think the fact that his cap hit limits his market is going to also limit his return. I think the way for Montreal to maximize their return on an Anderson trade would be to take back a bad contract - the problem is there's just not a ton of them in the $4.5-6.5M range that either a: have more than this year in term or b: isn't already in Montreal.

I totally agree! And it’s more of a what direction that they want to take. If it’s a rebuild we could take a bad contract. Probably more of a draft day move than a mid-season/trade deadline move

No they didn't, that reporter literally just said that Calgary has had interest in him in the past
