I think you guys should steer VERY clear of Anderson. Even with the retention that is a rough contract for an injury-ridden inconsistent scorer. I personally don't think he's worth a 1st or any significant futures.

at this point i think the habs will take less to not retain. we moved Poehling to get out of retaining on Petry, they arent going to retain anything for 5 years.

The odds of two teams retaining on a 5-year contract is slim to none.

I don't think anyone is taking that contract without retention, even with taking a smaller return.

then we keep him, its not complicated. Hughes has clearly shown he isnt paying to dump players there are several other players that will either be dealt for scrapes or are off the books this offseason, theres no reason to retain on anderson for the next 5 years.

Values aside, theres just no way two teams handcuff themselves for 5 years by using one of their retention slots. And as weve seen in the past theres a premium paid when these two teams trade so retention would be a non-option anyways. Again im not arguing values, just applying past league history to this scenario

Yeah, keeping him makes the most sense. You're in a rebuild, so there's no real need to dump anything.

exactly, fully understand peoples frustration with the offers some people post with anderson returning a first plus, i dont think its realistic, i think if they were motivated to move him and got a 2nd and a b prospect without retention they would jump all over that. If hughes has shown anything so far its that he knows how to maximize his assets, everything seem to be part of one plan, not like bergevin where every transaction seemed to happen in its own bubble. Hughes will probably sit firm at a 1st round pick as the price tag for anderson, and same for edmundson with retention and for monahan with retention (assuming healthy) not because he thinks he can land that for all three but he wants to add another first round pick before the draft and can be patient and hold out.

Go back to trading with NJ.

You really want to lose Nylander and/or Bunting for Josh Anderson?

What a mistake that would be
