Lafreniere trade

Created by: Xspyrit
Team: 2022-23 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 6, 2022
Published: Dec. 6, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not saying this is possible (IIRC Trouba doesn't want to play in Canada)

Just curious to see how much fans from both sides would like or hate this trade

I also put back Norris, JBD and Zub in the lineup to see how it looks like when everyone is healthy
Trades
OTT
  1. Lafrenière, Alexis
  2. Trouba, Jacob
Additional Details:
Rangers get a huge upgrade in the forward group, they also get rid of Trouba who is way overpaid. Hamonic is not as good but a decent stop gap for the rest of the year. He'd play behind Fox and Schneider so no biggie. DeBrincat is just 4 years older than Laf, they need to win now.
NYR
  1. DeBrincat, Alex
  2. Hamonic, Travis
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Ottawa takes a gamble on Lafreniere. Trouba is overpaid but would bring a much needed physical element. Chabot needs a player like that

Rangers should be in the back half of the draft. Young 40 goal scorers don’t grow on trees. Usually it takes something of incredible value to acquire them. Lafreniere isn’t that.

How many games have you watched DeBrincat this season?

I'd give the Sens 1st to do DeBrincat for Caufield

I don't understand how you say "it would take something of incredible value to acquire him" when he just got acquired for a 7th and 39th OA picks in a weak draft

Ya why don’t you look up how frequently top ten picks are traded. The 7th overall is a ridiculously high value asset.

Yes but already told you the 2021 draft was seen as much weaker than usual

Yes it was still a valuable asset but pretty much all there was with the 2nd

I would happily trade that pick + 2nd for Lafreniere + Trouba, which would have made my team better

When people are talking about weak drafts, they’re generally not talking about the top ten. There’s talent in the top ten. I’m not even sure how much of a positive asset trouba is. I know he had a good year last season, but prior to that his contract was viewed as bad. Sort of a non-factor because he isn’t waiving for a canadian team. And lafreniere kinda sucks. I just don’t see what this trade accomplishes other than torpedoing the senators, and bailing out the rangers.

Yeah Trouba was purely hypothetical anyway but this discussion made me very curious about this. I think Lafreniere has more to give

Lafreniere - Stutzle - Giroux could be really good for his career

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson back as the 1st line

By the way, DeBrincat hasn't been great so far this season :

He’s a 24 year old with two 40 goal seasons, and a 32 goal campaign in 52 games in the shortened season.
Lafreniere is nothing compared to that. He would have to be the third piece of a trade, not the first.

Turns 25 y/o in a week, will probably get a 8 year contract that brings him to 33 y/o.

I know what he did with Patrick Kane (one of the best playmaking wingers in history)

What about ?

Kakko + Lafreniere + Trouba

For DeBrincat + Zaitsev

Are you brave enough to post this lol?

Brave enough? What are you talking about?

Kakko sucks
Lafreniere sucks
Trouba had a good season, but I don’t think that contract has value.

Why are you so hellbent on destroying your team?

In the sense that some people are going to jump on you like vultures

So you're saying this trade would "destroy" the Senators?

It would actually FIX the team IMO

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Lafreniere - Stutzle - Giroux
Joseph - Pinto - Kakko
Brassard - Kastelic - Motte
Watson

Chabot - Trouba
Sanderson - Hamonic
Brannstrom - Zub
Holden

Would only need a coaching change and then the team could start rising
