yeah i would say most of these are effy compararison. they compare him to statsny saying that he had not hit 60 point in a while. monahan did not get 30 points in a while too, not the same thing. can monahan get a first? i think so. does thisnarticle prove anything? not really...

In addition to what drambui said about the comps not really being that good, and the fact that Monahan's injury history was just mentioned but not reflected in the trade, you combined the "verdicts". Puljujarvi is a former first, and you got the current 1st which not even Giroux landed. Monahan doesn't have the two-way game that Copp had combined with the production. JP might not be worth 3m but he's an rfa on a 1-year deal so it's not really taking on a cap dump either.

JP+ two 2nds+a 4th is more fair or 2024 1st + JP for Monahan+ 2024 4th.

Poolparty was used as a cap offset not as a former first since Montrealw ouldnt have any interest in acquiring him other than to help the Oilers cap

You don't find that too convenient for MTL? Edmonton didn't want to trade the guy for a 3rd because he was a former 3rd overall, they are already getting inconvenienced by trading him when his value is low. Why are they giving up a current 1st also for Monahan when his injury history is still a concern? Puljujarvi being in the trade allows the trade to happen but it's not giving them any cap, it's actually increasing their cap by 187k cap. So, the only help the Oilers are getting is Monahan himself and they are paying a hefty price for him.

Edmonton probably has interest in acquiring Monahan and Edmundson but for a relatively low cost.

Nothing in that article factors in Monahan's injury history to a potential return, though. He was in an aircast *before* leaving last night's game with a lower-body injury and now he's out tonight - that's a huge red flag attached to Monahan that neither Giroux nor Copp had.

I'd also argue that there's a lot of reasons that the Giroux comp doesn't work - even with a limited market with his NMC, Florida was going to have to pay up for a guy with Giroux's lengthy track record of production and ability to maintain that production in the playoffs (Giroux's regular season PPG at the time of the trade: 0.9 PPG; his playoff PPG: 0.86.) Giroux had also maintained that production in the years prior to the trade - even if you go back to 2019-20, in the two and a half years before the trade Giroux still managed 0.82 PPG for his age-32, -33, and -34 seasons. And thats before you get to the multiple top-5 Hart Trophy finishes and how many times he appeared on Selke ballots. It's almost unfair to compare Giroux, a guy who's got a very good HoF case when he retires, to Sean Monahan - a guy with one appearance on a Selke ballot, a guy who's average 0.55 PPG going back to 2019-20, and a guy whose best playoff performance consisted of scoring 4 power play goals over 4 games while his team got swept out of the playoffs.

Comparing Monahan to Giroux is like comparing a Hyundai Elantra to my new car

If any GM is ready to give anything close to what is proposed in this ACGM, he'll instantly become the new laughing stock for a while

You give good value for players like Lehkonen (that you can re-sign) or Hagel (that you have for cheap for a while) but giving up the same kind of value for the Chariots and Monahans... is what makes you a bad GM

It's like if all the medias were directly working for the Habs tears of joy

A few years ago, some were talking about trading Carey Price for Cale Makar. But not only that, they were asking "should we do it?"

It was after Makar started playing in the NHL (in 2020 IIRC) and Price was already an injury prone way overpaid goalie with an anchor contract
