Seems to be a common trade we get these days....("we should have sent our guys for Marino").
Maybe PIT just really liked Ty Smith?

I agree with on DeBrincat. Would have been better to keep the young assets and then spend the cap next season..maybe on a UFA, (but that's just my opinion)
Brown being an upcoming UFA, maybe it was a needed trade.

Ugh... Sucks he hasn't worked out very well in OTT so far. CHI isn't giving up Korchinski, but I personally would be ok with trading to get Cat back in a Hawks sweater. Especially if they plan on bringing Kaner back in the summer.

Marino is the only one on here I'd say for certain would be nice to do. I'm definitely not ready to say the Debrincat trade was a dud. He was just playing with Patrick Kane, there's going to be an adjustment period obviously. And obviously there's no guarantee Brown would tear his ACL four games in like he did with Washington, but the trade was probably necessary to gain a pick back.

I was actually doing an ACGM recently proposing an offer sheet on Cat next summer and saw that the price OTT paid (the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks) was the exact amount an offer sheet at is qualifying offer would have cost in picks. So it makes a lot more sense now why that was what CHI accepted. I don't know why I didn't realize that sooner.

I personally don't think much of Smith, so I'd make this trade to get the 2nd, but Hextall obviously really liked him, so I'm not sure how realistic that would be.

Yeah I think Hextall’s big selling point on Smith was that he was waiver exempt. I personally still think the pens should have asked for more, but if Smith comes up next year and does well then I guess I can’t complain.

This ACGM is going back in time so it doesn't matter if the Hawks would give up Korchinski or not

We don't care about picks right now, team needs to get better results, to progress in the standings, not just in advanced stats. If they finish with the 7th-10th OA pick, that would be 3 years in a row

The right play was to extend Nick Paul (IIRC he wanted 5 years at 3.25 AAV) and then keep Connor Brown too. Connor was pissed when his friend and linemate (who he had crazy chemistry with) was traded.

Then do the Marino trade, get Bjorkstrand (or another good 2-way winger) and go :

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Bjorkstrand - Stutzle - Giroux
Paul - Pinto - Brown
Crookshank - Kastelic - Watson
Brassard

Chabot - Marino
Sanderson - Zub
Holden - Hamonic
Zaitsev

The bottom-3 D is not good enough so if it's possible to give another 2nd or something instead of Brannstrom go for it. Oh and Hamonic was a bit useless since we would have went after a better RHD

That being said, Dorion and DJ smith have absolutely no idea what they are doing so what we are seeing now is not that surprising

Yeah. I get that. I was just saying IF OTT wants to move him at some point, I would be all for bringing him back to CHI.
