Description
Not Likely, Just a thought exercise

Kane to Dallas: Dallas is playing really well, could make a move. Don't have a first this year but a lottery protected 1st in 2024 for Kane and helping win now is worth it. Pavelski is a fellow American. Hawks get back a needed good forward prospect who could play center or RW in Bourque. Stankoven would also be welcomed. Gurianov could round back into form with more playing time and be resigned for a year or two after this season. Khudobin is cap cleared off the Dallas books. Buyout Khudobin to help reach cap floor next season (1.25 mil for next yr).

Toews to Carolina: Carolina could use a 2C BAD. Toews could fit real well there, likely would respect brind'amour and jordan staal and others and the culture would be a great change. Suzuki is a solid piece to come back and a 2023 Philly 3rd is solid enough too. Some may say this isn't enough but it is still plenty IMO. I like suzuki, gamble on him staying healthy and get a good 3rd rounder in a good draft. They also have some cap space to spare.

Domi to Oilers: Domi 1/2 retained nets a winger with some sort of potential and a 3rd, Puljujarvi could be on the team next year on a little extension or something idk. They clear 1.5 mil in space here too.

Athanasiou to Wash: We give AA and Kharia to Wash for Hagelin and Johanssen. They get a more offensive winger and a more traditional grinder upgrading while we take back a 4th, 7th and 2 expiring deals.

Lafferty to Boston: Boston gets a versatile bottom 6 piece with high energy, I love him and would love to hang onto him but trading him with an extra yr on his deal is his peak value. Craig Smith coming back clears a net of $2mil in cap for the Bruins to make another move if desired. a 3rd and 6th include Lafferty's value and the cap dump-ish nature to smith. Buyout Smith to help reach floor for 2023-24 and give him the chance to play elsewhere to end season.

Boston trade is reasonable. 👍🏻

One thing in your description - You can’t buyout Smith, the window closed a long time ago. And his contract expires at years end so he won’t be around for the next buyout window.

Patrick Kane isn't waiving for Dallas.

And Jonathan Toews goes to either Colorado or Winnipeg.

Think MTL could get Seth Jones out of Chicago? Would he waive for MTL if they also traded for Dubois and are ready to compete soon?

How much would Chicago ask? My guess is a top 15 pick, just like DeBrincat and Dach, in a better 2023 draft. Maybe something like OEL.

Yeah, Canes have 0 interest in Toews. Your entire argument is "Canes need 2C"... what? If the Canes needed a 2C that badly, they'd just put Necas there. Necas is having the best season of any Hurricane. They don't need another center. They need a 3rd line winger and some bottom-pair help. Unironically, Carolina has a bigger need for Devon Toews than Jonathan Toews (yes, I know Devon Toews would likely be 2LD in Carolina, but that really isn't my point)

Whether Canes have a lot of interest In Toews or not, if his cost is only Suzuki and a 3rd, we do that. Center depth is always good. The one sticking point is cap as we only have 1.6 million available.

Canes have no need and no interest in Toews. The last thing they need is another defensive center. If the Canes make a move for a Hawk, it’s likely to be either Domi or AA. Besides, even if the Canes did have interest in Toews, you seem to have that notion that the Canes can just magically fit him under the cap. Dump Toews on a team that actually needs a defensive center.

Switch smith with Mike Reilly then Blackhawks have a guy who’ll be able to play in their top 6 next year

Not bad moves. Would hesitate on moving Bourque for a rental though. Also, re-signing conditions are no longer allowed.

If Jones wanted out of CHI, I'm almost positive Davidson would oblige. But the price would have to be right. A top 15 pick is probably right, and then maybe a prospect. That would recoup about half of what Bowman gave up. But, would he waive for MTL? Idk... Anything is possible, I guess. He may not have wanted to go to a Canadian team before, but he might go to a Canadian team now if it means getting out of this rebuild. Plus things are looking up in MTL, so he might look at that as a positive. But honestly, he is pretty quiet, so even as a CHI fan, your guess is as good as mine. I do know he has had a look on his face lately like he might not want to be in CHI anymore.

I’ll let the rest of everyone argue the merit of the trade value…but Canes have LTIR overage space of $1.6m when Patches comes back. How do the Canes fit the numbers in even at 25%?

I'm on the fence about the Caps trade. On one hand, I think AA would be an interesting add, but Johansson has played very well this year and Khaira wouldn't have a place in the lineup, so I think the Caps would decline here. I wouldn't mind possibly making a small move for AA, but it would all depend on if it would force Snively down once the team gets healthy.

I think the canes would be more interested in AA (or maybe even domi again) rather than Toews. They could use a 3LW and depth scoring more than a 2C. Plus Toews wouldn't work under the cap unless we got double retention. For that price, I'd take Toews, but again, he wouldn't work under the cap.
