You sure about that? Once they no longer have Newhook to worry about giving a 2nd contract to? Just let guys like Compher and Rodriguez walk as well.

You liberate yourselves of Mittlestadt, and Boeser doesnt' necessarily have to be in the top six. Plus this is a generous ask.

Sure, but I add 6.6m that I probably don't need to. Boeser might not even be in are top 9 next year.

He'll definitely be in the top 9, and playing on the 3rd line isn't going to break the team. It really comes down to whether or not the team thinks they can rejuvenate Boeser at least somewhat.

No it wouldn't break the team, but with Kulich, Rousek, Rosen and a few others playing very well in Rochester already and Savoie, Nadeau on the horizon I would rather use those assets on a Dman or 2.

Those are like, the three cheapest guys in their top 9. Giving Horvat an extension would make it nearly impossible for the Avs to ice a full lineup without moving a defenseman out for futures only.

Not to mention this is a huge overpay.

While I would love to dump Mittlestadt, he could be moved for a dman that Buffalo actually needs. The Sabres dont need any of Vancouver's wingers

The Jets have no need for another D man. We will trade Logan Stanley for a forward (Garland, Boeser).

what an awful trade for the avs, easy decline
hurst their depth going into the playoffs and long term as well. Also horvat cant sign an extension without the avs dismantling their roster, thats just bad all around

It's probably just abut do-able for the Avs with that contract for Horvat and is probably fair as a 'trade & sign', with the contract ready in place. However it would very much rely on everything else the Avs would need to do falling into place perfectly so it makes it too much of a risk.

Another D-man? What's the matter with Dahlin, Power, Samuelsson, Jokiharju, Lyubushkin, and Bryson?

It's not an overpay, Newhook doesn't look like he's close to breaking out

Depends on what you consider a breakout.

Even if you assume that 21 year old Newhook does not develop into more than a 3rd liner ever: you just subtracted a 3C under team control for the next several years and a solid second liner from your active roster to upgrade 2C. Then you add a 2023 1st. I think that’s a hefty price tag for a pure rental.

You gave Horvat an extension here that the Avs can’t afford. Now they have to replace Compher, Rodrigues, Cogliano, Helm, another bottom 6F, Johnson, and re-sign Byram. They don’t have the money for that. So now you have to ship out one of Byram/Girard/Toews and get the whole bottom 6 to sign league minimum contracts in order to field a cap compliant roster.

Horvat to Colorado with an extension doesn’t make sense.

Avs need a long-term answer at 2C, bottom line.

Not if that costs them an entire bottom 6 and a top 4 defenseman.

Newhook and Rodriguez aren't bottom six players. Avs forward group isn't deep enough to play both outside the top six, even when fully healthy

You misread my comment. Go back and read #16 in this thread again.

If the Avs sign Horvat to an extension, they have a top 6 of Landeskog/MacKinnon/Rantanen/Lehkonen/Horvat/Nuke. Then you need to replace warm bodies down the lineup. They would need to sign 5 forwards for the bottom 6, replace Johnson, and extend Byram. Even if all of those guys sign for $1M, I don’t think the Avs can ice a full lineup with Horvat.

Keep dreaming if you think both Newhook and Byram combined are together going to cost less to extend than Horvat.

Where did I say that? They are also two players vs one, so I’m not sure I understand your point.

If you can go back and quote the posts you’re referring to, that would be helpful. I’m having trouble following what you’re saying, similar to how you’re having trouble reading.

Alright man have a good one. Let me know when you’re able to actually reference other people’s comments instead of just making **** up lol. You can read #9, #16 and #20 in this thread if you need a refresher. I am happy to link if you need to.
