Truth be told Jensen's value probably lies somewhere between a first and a second. I think the going rate for that second tier of rental defensemen is often two second round picks which I think is more than fair for a second pair guy like Jensen (see Giordano last TDL).

Why the 2nd and 3rd here isn't a bad offer.

Agreed I think the offer here is strong , a third + C level prospect roughly is equal to a 2nd IMO. If washington gets more that'd be fantastic but I think this is the max I'd be comfortable giving up for Jensen

    Did I say they should?

I just think you are overvaluing Jensen. 2nd yes. 1st is a stretch.

Certainly would be opposed to moving Kerfoot in such a package.

Not sure I would go so far as to call him a "cap casualty" at this juncture. The Muzzin situation (I strongly feel he won't be back given some offseason comments) has cleared that issue up.

I recognize Henrique's offensive game is both better and more consistent than Kerfoot's, but defensively they are very much a wash.

A Kerfoot inclusion for Anahiem gives them another movable asset in such deal (seeing a 2nd rounder or early 3rd).

For the Leafs, non retention is more an issue next year, so not sure this would be of any assistance to Dubas.

    Stranger things have happened.

I don't think Kerfoot is a 2nd or a 3rd unless his cap is 50% retained, and at that point, it would be 2/3 of our slots, and we still have 3 defensemen we might move. More than likely kerfoor would ride out the year with us because no team who could use his services has the cap space for him.

Why I think the Ducks retaining maximizes the return

Having underrated players is a gift and a curse, the value they bring under the radar is obviously amazing however the reputation they carry also effects their value. It wasn't too long ago when the capitals were scratching Jensen on a consistent basis. Stuff like that does effect the cost for a player IMO

So by the JFresh argument, you just proved my point.

    1. I already stated Jensen was an under rated D.

    2. On that list, I would say Reilly and Holden maybe available, neither of whom get a 1st.

    3. Jensen isn't so far removed from either of those players to justify a 1st.

    4. If Jensen came with term, it may change the conversation (see Seigenthaler.... who is younger)

Again..... Jensen is absolutely worth a 2nd. Maybe an additional pick (I can conceded that). But a 1st? No.

I don’t know how your logic is working that I somehow proved your point…

In Jensen’s ENTIRE tenure with the caps, he has never been a healthy scratch. Literally look up his hockey reference page. He’s only missed games with injuries. Over the time he’s been in DC, the most games he has missed in a season is 6 in 2021-22.

The fact that you are comparing Jensen to Reilly and Holden proves that you actually don’t have any clue how good Jensen is. Reilly is literally in the AHL, Jensen is playing second pair minutes consistently and has been incredible. He also makes less than Reilly. He’s also the only RHD of those three.

Jensen is worth at least a first round pick. Your argument is not based in any sort of fact, just what you think you know. I promise you, you’re not even close to being right here.

Leafs fans have the ability to over value players just as much as any inherent fan base. I get it. Can we all say Kerfoot?

But when the constructive criticism on your valuation is almost unanimous, well.......

TBF that is completely my bad, I got Kempny and Jensen mixed up. But even with that mix up I think the going rate for Jensen would still be two second round picks based on previous rental prices.

    Lmfao!

OK bud. You presented the list of under rated D with those names on it. I didn't compare them, your source did.

But when everyone who has commented in this thread is saying a 2nd with another pick is probably the going rate.... you may want to re evaluate.

I know my puck. I am aware of how effective Jensen is. You can keep selling it, but seems to me no one is buying it.

Ask anyone who actually watches the caps. I’m sorry you’re so hurt that you don’t know what you’re talking about. Just giving you a reality check 👍🏼

    No you are not lol.

That is like saying ask anyone who watches the Leafs, Kerfoot is worth what Dvorak got. Reality dictates otherwise.

You also think Sheary is worth a first. Every Cap is worth a first.

I know what I watch. I know what I see.

I will say it again and again and again.

    Jensen nets a 2nd +. Absolutely. He isn't getting a first.
