and then if we don't win the cup, next year we are left with Murphy for Marner. Great.

Matthews is displeased that we moved his close friend and fellow superstar for a bunch of rentals, he leaves.

Well now, why's Nylander going to stay if everyone else is leaving?

So to conclude, we got 3 months of Kane and Toews, as well as Murphy, in exchange for our entire young core.

Marner can't play good in the playoffs plus I have kane extending, our best chance to win the cup with matthews is trading marner

He's to mentally soft for the playoffs I rather get someone that's a proven winner and can take this team to the promise land

Marner has equal amount of points to Matthews in the playoffs and has more points in the playoffs than Nylander and J.T.

Kanes and Toews have no desire for a Cup in this stage of their career they'd rather be golfing in the spring than playing hockey.

He also takes stupid ass penaltys, his points are from being carried by Matthew's

I doubt that every pro athlete wants to win even marner, how ever I think Kane and Towes are proven winners that will bring this team over the top

except marner was over a point per game in the Tampa series. He's 25 and just coming into his prime, you've got to recognize that his playoff performances as a really young player are hard to judge him on, giving up on a player of his calibre and on-ice maturity at 25 would be a terrible mistake. 25 years old with 33 points in already 39 playoff games since that first Washington series at 19 years old is not all that bad. He's figuring it out.

I rather a proven Cup winner, Marner just makes way to many mistakes, I get he is young but like this team is in win now mode, we really shouldn't be waiting around players that are 25 to figure it out imho

Matthews goals are carried by the playmaking skill of Marner.

Sorry I had to correct your statement.

Marner has 14 PIM's in 39 playoff games, go to bed son.

Lol who says go to bed son? Matthew's is the best player in the world, his scoring would probably be even better with Kane, Marner might only have 19 mins but they are always the stupidest penalty to take at the worst time

A decade ago, 9 playoff games in 7 seasons tells me Kane/Toews are not the same player you remember from the Cup years.

except he hasn't played with Matthews for most of this point streak, and also didn't play with Matthews at all other than PP until Keefe came in 2019-20. So nearly half of his playoff experience has come playing not on Auston's line.

I get the sense that you're pretty young because its hard to appreciate just how young a player is playing in the league at 18-23 age bracket. Most of his playoff stats have come from a time when he was that young. Still is quite young but an exceptional player. He's had some bad penalties and has had to learn to handle the pressure over the years, but he's showing, especially in the TBL series, that he's grown into it. Would be senseless to move him as he is just entering his prime.

Not to come off as some old vet, i'm fairly young too, but have grown up to appreciate how young these players are/were as I've grown up a bit more.

They have had zero support these past few years, they literally just willed the hawks past Edmonton in 2020

he already has "figured it out". He plays a playoff winning style. The Leafs were a couple bounces away against the cup finalists and back to back champs, they just need that breakthrough. One goal away against the best. Not worth blowing it up over that, they weren't and aren't out of place in that top echelon.

Trade Marner will end up like trading another player who was thought to be too soft and useless for a long playoff run, remember Phil Kessel, let's trade him; wins back to back Cup and got robbed of being named playoff MVP.

Kessel was traded because he was too old for the core, a prime kessel>Marner

can't objectively say that. Matthews hit a post just moments before Paul scored in game 6 OT. I'd argue JT's game tying goal in game 7 should've counted. Its partly a game of luck and inches and last year the Leafs truly played TBL 50/50, they got the bounce and we didn't in the end. Its life, but to blow it all up over that is insane.

Plus why do this when its known Kane can be had for futures right now? If you really want him, it doesn't have to be either/or

neither are carried by eachother, they still produce regardless of who they play with. Marner spent his first couple seasons with Bozak and JVR, Matthews dropped 40 as a rookie when his most common linemates were rookie Hyman and rookie Connor Brown

but yes I agree, it's bedtime for son.

Kessel was just 27 years old when that trade was made.

Kessel was traded so the Leafs could tank to draft Matthews
