Horvat Trades Read Bio

Created by: bogdown
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 14, 2022
Published: Dec. 14, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Colorado gets a 2C to fill the spot left by Kadri leaving
Minnesota gets a 2C behind Eriksson Ek

Both deals would include an extension for Horvat. Horvat is a two way centre capable of putting up 60+ points with people like Pearson on his wing. Put him with Zuch and Kaprizov or Boldy, or Lekhonen and Nichuskin and he'll produce.

I could definitely see Horvat being more than a rental on both of these teams. Horvat denied the Canucks offer not necessarily because of the money but because of how garbage management treated him. I'm sure management choosing Miller over him at 8x8 and only offering him 8x5.125 was the last straw. I could see him signing a deal more around 7 with a team that treats him right and actually has a chance to win.

How are we supposed to get first overall picks if we don't have tank commander Stillman?

Can't think of a good trade..."Add the extension". Both Colorado and Minni likely don't have the desire or cap for such a long term extension anyway. Golgiski doesn't waive for NMC.

I appreciate you putting what the extension would look like but, I don't think the Avs can afford Horvat at 7m if they couldnt justify Kadri for the same. The "savings" from Girard being traded isn't enough to replace him after spending it on Horvat. Also Byram and Newhook need deals and Toews next summer

Miller, Myers, Boeser, and Garland are doing a mighty fine job commanding the tank.

Even with moving Girard (which, where did you come up the $16M in cap space?), Avs don't have space to add Horvat long-term; they definitely can't add Horvat and re-sign Toews. Also, didn't he reject $8M from the Canucks? Why would he sign for $1M less with the Avs? Horvat to Colorado isn't going to happen.

Colorado's cap situation is looking really tough. Toews could get 6+ on his next deal, Byram and Newhook around 4, The big thing for Colorado is signing those two long term for cheap. I think this deal is fair, extension or not, for both teams.

Horvat wants out, it doesn't matter how much you throw at someone after you put him second behind Miller. He takes less to play for a team that wins a cup. Even as a rental situation I think this deal is fair. Trading Girard opens up room to sign Newhook or Byram (possibly both) long term. Horvat fills in on 2C for the playoff push.

Next season, the Avs have $11.6M in cap space to get to 20 players. Trade Girard and that goes to $16.6M; if Horvat takes up $7M, that leaves $9.6M to sign 7 players, including RFA's Byram, Newhook and Meyers. That isn't enough money to sign anyone long-term. Horvat to Colorado doesn't work.

yet you have him extending there for more than girards cap, so now on earth doest that open up cap space, all you did is sewer the avs cap space

I think it was just under 8 mil(like 7.95 mil) as we couldn't make work if we are going down the slight retool and hope for the playoffs route which would require resigning Schenn(about 2.5milx2) and Kuzmenko(about 3.95milx3).

With an extension it's a reasonable trade for the Avs. Without an extension it isn't. The problem is that the Avs can't afford the extension and that's IF Horvat were to take a reduced amount to play for the Avs which is unlikely as he's rejected more from VAN. Therefore it's a no.

Horvat has never stated that he wants out of Vancouver, he just wants to get paid.

I really don’t understand where the “creates $16M in cap space” comes from. Horvat at $7M is $2M more expensive than Girard. Your move doesn’t create cap space for 2023-2024, it loses cap space and a 1st round pick.
