Description
After another playoff loss, the core 4 have a meeting. They decide if they want to win, they'll have to take discounts. They all agree on taking below market value on their new deals, and all 4 extend at the same time on july 1st, 2025. Giving Leafs fans one hell of a scare.

JT leads the way with a major veteran discount at 4Mx4. He's already secured his bag.
Then the core 3 that have grown up together in TOR, agree on the same deal. 8.5x8

conveniently have Jarnkrok, Robertson, Kane, Brodie, Talbot off the books plus the cap raise plus the JT and MM discounts right as mcdavid is expiring soon ;)

MacKinnon's $12.6 seems like the base...I'd say anywhere between there and $14. I don't know how you go much higher if you're a GM though. I'd absolutely be trying to hammer that $hittttt out as soon as they're able to though. A year of "Matthews is a pending UFA! We need to trade him for 86 1st round picks!!!", or "Matthews is a pending UFA! Trade him for Tanner Jeanot!!!" threads will be more than I can handle.

weird one because like yea, bet you some team would clear the cap and give anything he wanted for 7 years. Could definitely get more than 14M. But to me that sounds like about where the number will land in Toronto. I think him leaving is overplayed and the main reason he signed 5yrs was for flexibility and maximizing earnings.

Lets pray the leafs advance past the first round so he re-signs in the summer and we don't have to listen to crap all year from fans and media alike

Yeah, I *really* think he's staying, I just think the media narrative if he doesn't sign early this summer is going to be a friggin' nightmare to listen to. I mean christ...first thing Kypreos is going on about how useless Nylander is, and now him being good is a "Hugeeeee" problem because he might be expensive to sign. And people will absolutely eat that up! The same folks who've had this irrational hatred of Nylander for years, are just going to continue to!

he wrote an article today or yesterday maybe saying Nylander is too good and priced himself out of next TOR deal with a Panarin-comparable. Kypreos moves with the wind. Tomorrow Nylander will be worthless.

20% of leafs fans deserve a cup, 80% don't in my experience. Suppose its up to non leafs fans to really sort out who is who lol
