You know a trade is insignificant when not even Friedman tweets about it

Laaksonen is two years younger then Cecconi, both dmen. Nothing trade really but Dallas wins for getting the younger guy

Younger could just mean it will take two more years to develop.

Not really much of anything, Laaksonen’s 2 years younger so maybe Dallas wins by a small margin but I doubt anyone here goes on to have a huge impact on an NHL team

Fair deal because neither team benefit from this trade.

Cecconi's trade value was wiped out when he cleared waivers.

Laaksonen's trade value is still intact.

The Dallas Stars win the trade.

As some necessary context, Laaksonen has been a healthy scratch for most of the AHL season. Rochester isn't good at defense, and yet his D game is so leaky that he wasn't getting game time. We were playing guys on PTOs over him.

I hope the change of scenery helps. He has some offensive talent, hopefully a new org and new coaches can take a fresh approach with him. Meanwhile, Rochester desperately needs steady defensemen, so I'm hoping this is done to address that and give our boys some support.

Getting a player named Joey Cecconi makes it a win for Buffalo in my book. That's a badass name.

After reading about the trade a bit, I can see the logic in this move from both teams' standpoint, although seeing the Stars trade Cecconi is somewhat bittersweet for me.

At one point a few seasons ago, he was probably our 2nd best defenseman prospect after Harley (and I think he was on the shutdown pair 2-3 seasons back with the expectation that he might have been close to challenging for a 6th/7th spot in Dallas). I always thought that he and Harley would have been the next two to move up, especially once guys like Miller and Hakanpaa came of the books. He didn't really develop much and I guess I was wrong since we just drafted a bunch of RHD. This suggests that he wasn't in the long-term plan and probably wasn't going to re-sign so he basically gets to go home since he's from the Buffalo area. At Michigan, I think he was their captain and was paired with Hughes too. He was one of my favorite prospects in our system so I hope it works out for him in Buffalo. Hoping he becomes a long-time NHL player and PK guy for the Sabres.

From what I understand about Laaksonen, he's very talented offensively (which is what DeBoer likes) but terrible defensively in a Klingberg way. His offensive skills seem to fit the system we're running now and obviously Dallas loves its Finnish players so it makes sense that he's getting a shot in Helsinki South. Hopefully it works out.
