I don't think NYI spends much time saying no on that deal. Raty is someone I highly doubt that they'd move

Its a terrible idea to trade Hughes, unless its for a massive overpayment

Getting Hischier as a return is a massive overpayment.

The only deal that even has a chance at getting considered is the Calgary deal, and I’m pretty sure Calgary would be looking for a bigger upgrade at RW without having to give up Zadorov.

Getting Hischier for him would be tough to turn down. Near PPG 2C that’s amazing defensively

I think it'd be cool and could make sense (maybe NJ fans feel differently) but good god not for Nico. Adding Marino is an utter joke as well.

If I'm the Isles, I keep my top prospect and deal with the last year and a half of Josh Bailey instead of trading for a guy with huge potential to become More Expensive Josh Bailey. Miller has much less value with that extension than he did as a rental - you really have to like a guy to give up a major asset to hitch your wagon to him through his age-37 season.

There's also the point I've made every time I've seen a JT Miller trade - you can't just treat these guys as names on a spreadsheet. Miller signed his extension in September; it doesn't even kick in until July 1, 2023. Not only that, but he has a full NMC that kicks in then - so trading him now, a few months before the clause *you* gave him would give him at least somewhat of a say in his destination, is a real kick in the balls to a guy that showed loyalty to your team. Every potential UFA (or hell, any of your guys you want to stick around long term like Pettersson) are going to see you going back on that deal this fast and just assume that you'd do the same to them. You think that's gonna be good for team morale going forward?

I actually think this deal is pretty clearly lopsided in NYs favour. Yes Miller has an 8x8 deal, but he would bring a lot of offence and grit to a team that should be in win now mode. I think this trade benefits both sides because for the 4-5 years that the Miller deal actually is worth the value, VAN is probably just gonna waste it by missing the playoffs and being mediocre. NYI has the potential to cash out with this trade by making the playoffs multiple years in a row. I think Raty is good but lets be honest he is nothing incredible with 0.5 ppg in the AHL, definitely a piece that could be moved. This trade is a risk for VAN but we need prospects and cap space.

Isles are not touching millers long term contract, he will stay in Vancouver for at least the next 6 seasons.

im not sure if any of you noticed but Horvat is also in the deal... Hischier is an amazing 1C/2C but Horvat is also an extremely good and useful 2C, although 5 years older. Hughes is undoubtedly a top pairing top power play defenseman. NJ can easily re sign Horvat, and obviously keep Severson with Marino gone. Their d core would be Hughes-Hamilton, Siegenthaler-Severson, Luke Hughes-Nemec, the nastiest defence in the league. I think in terms of value this trade is decently fair. Obviously with their current winning situation this deal wouldn't happen but u cant deny having all three hughes brother on one team would be a spectacle to watch. Imagine watching the power play with Quinn, Luke and Jack

i mean, all reports point to Lou already passing on Miller, and that was before he was signed through his age-37 season

Lou didn’t trade for Miller when he was available in the offseason, clear he didn’t want to pay him on a long term deal.

One thing that I’ve consistently noticed with Canucks fans on Horvat proposals is that they tend to ignore contract status.

Hischier is signed for $7.25M for the next 5 years. That’s already one of the best contracts in the league and expires when Hischier is 28ish. Horvat is a good player, but he doesn’t have anywhere near the value of Hischier (both because Hischier is a better and younger player AND because Hischier’s contract is better than an expiring UFA deal).

Uniting Quinn with his brothers would be fun but this is a huge overpay for the Devils.

I don't think it addresses a need for us.
We will probably have plenty of puck-moving and offense from blueline with Hamilton, Luke, Muk, Casey, Nemec.

We need interior forwards who can score in close.

(would be fun to have Quinn here though)

We have seen so many Quinn-to-NJ deals, I think VAN and NJD fans are numb to them.
