Quinn to NJ one for one pros and cons exist on both sides

Created by: leafs101
Team: 2022-23 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 18, 2022
Published: Dec. 18, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
NJD
  1. Hughes, Quinn
Additional Details:
NJ gets still an elite young player, gets all the brothers, and I mean they're set on the right side with Hamilton - Marino, they would be godly down the road with Hughes - Hughes - Siegenthaler down the left.
VAN
  1. Nemec, Simon
Additional Details:
VAN kicks of the rebuild by getting their future #1D who is 5 years younger, probably aligning better with the rebuild if they go scorched earth as they probably should.
2.
NJD
  1. Tullio, Tyler
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
3.
NJD
  1. 2023 6th round pick (ARI)

Quinn is the player Nemec hopes to become... you'd have to attach another 1st + or it's not worth it for Van

Oilers Do Not Have Space For Severson, Although He'd Be A Great Addition IMO

well the way I'm thinking about it, should VAN go scorched earth, as they should, it'll likely take the duration of Quinn's contract to get good and then he'll walk, so a trade makes sense in a way.

Van could ask a team for a f*ck ton of picks and prospects, but none of them would be of the same quality as Nemec. From this perspective, VAN goes for quality over quantity, and aims to develop #2 overall pick Nemec to be the new #1D by the time the team is competitive again.

would probably have to assume a Pulju deal is found first.

maybe so but given the timeline of a proper rebuild Hughes would walk, and you're not going to return a prospect with a higher ceiling than Nemec. Suppose it depends if you prefer quality over quantity which I would as a Nucks fan.

I'd really want Nemec it would just take an extra piece. ie a late first or equivalent prospect

they still need to add another piece to protect it. hughes is already good, nemec is a great prospect but not a guaranteed NHL star like hughes. a first or another prospect needs to be in the deal at least

It would take a MASSIVE offer to pry Hughes out of Vancouver. Canuck’s decline this easily. Why trade Hughes for a guy who COULD be as good as Hughes? You will have to add. Canucks have all the leverage in the trade. If the Devils are trying to get Quinn, everybody will know why. Canucks can use that leverage to their advantage

Doesn’t sound like management is interested in a rebuild
