I know a lot of Jet fans are falling in love with the "bring Johnny home" meme, but he's just not worth a first at 50% retained. So, throwing away additional assets on top of that for more retention would be a real bad move by the Jets.

Bigger hole and or rental for this deadline would be a top 6 winger, and cut down to 3 centers when shortening the bench. Toews might be a luxury that isn’t affordable yet, and may not be as beneficial until there’s a higher role to slot him and a cheaper contract without the asset costs.
