do we even need to spend the 2023 first or any major prospects this year

Created by: leafs101
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 19, 2022
Published: Dec. 19, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Upgrade where we need it at 2LW, Barbashev also gives you a 3C option if you need to try a different lineup. Top picks and prospects on ELC will be huge in the next couple years, especially as the core 4 take more money. If we can make the team better and still keep the prospect pool healthy I think its worth at least considering. On the other hand, this seems like a team worth going all in for. Arguments on both sides no doubt.

Debated whether Schenn is necessary, but especially where we're not really spending the big pieces, I'm ok with it. Provides the physical element if needed, and a solid step-in for injuries.

Reveen's kid is touring, maybe go see him and he can help you come up with some better trades that actually help the Leafs Rick!

Not sure we need Schenn now that we have Timmins. He, Benn and Mete will be our depth D.

Yea, I agree in part which is why I had trouble deciding if we would want it. But I think that Schenn brings the element that we would really miss from Muzzin in the playoffs, ie physicality. I wouldn't expect him to play game 1 unless there are 2 injuries (ie. Timmins gets in game 1 first), but if its evident we need a physical-style presence, we're not **** out of luck and at least have someone to fit that description as a backup.

How are these getting progressively worst? What did St. Louis do to you?

not sure how a 2nd and a prospect is bad for a guy who's production only significantly spiked last year and is now back down to the .5ppg range, as a rental

If Hirvonen was putting up those numbers as a defenseman we'd have something to talk about. Essentially trading up 60-ish spots in a draft and in a later year with a prospect yet to show potential for a solid mid 6 forward in Barbashev with promise isn't a reasonable trade. If the Blues are making that move, they're likely already trading ROR and Tarasanko which would mean Barbashev is more likely to be resigned.
