Dump Barrie elsewhere. Canes once again have no need for him and won’t be paying a 2nd rounder for him.

Why would Edmonton be interested in Kulikov?

Carolina has one of the worst powerplays in the league

Because he's a sound stay at home defenseman and it's clear that Edmonton is defensively poor.

He’s precisely the kind of Dman we need for the bottom pairing.

Oilers traded for him in 20-21 and didn't really work out I don't that's who Kenny would want to bring back

He's barely an NHL defenseman anymore, at best he'd be an 8th defenseman on a playoff team. He played for Edmonton already, remember? Just last year... they traded a 4th round pick for him when he was making half the cap hit... and he was healthy scratched in the playoffs and they didn't bother tendering him an offer on free agency.

Zero chance they're interested now, let alone willing to trade Puljujarvi for him.

Ok, it also doesn’t help that Patches has been out of the lineup so far, and not having Turbo and Aho for extended stretches are also going to hurt the power play as well. If anything is going to be done to the power play, it would be to get a another winger to help the PP. And if they are looking for a PP2 QB, Ghost would be a much better alternative.

And yet, Kulikov has more goals, more assists, and a better +/- than Puljujarvi this season, yet cost less against the cap. You'd be buying cap space and reinforcing the Defense with this deal. Puljujarvi is no longer a positive asset, and with each passing game his stats get worse and his value drops further.

Facts are that Pulljujarvi is a bust, and the clock is ticking. Oilers are only in a wildcard spot despite McDavid and Draisaitl having been in full hockey god mode this season. Its incredibly unlikely they can sustain this pace, so if depth scoring and keeping the puck out of their own net don't improve, there's a chance Edmonton misses the dance entirely this season. Is that worth clinging onto the belief that Jesse has value for?

It’s all about how a player is playing now.
