That would be a no from NJ. They’re trying to become long term contenders in NJ sooner rather than later

NJD still wants to compete rn tho so the trade has to include more for now and less for later… so
Horvat with an extension plus more for Hischier
And Hughes for nemec is more realistic

Horvat and Hughes for hischier and nemec is closer value wise but those kinds of blockbusters just never happen lol
It reminds me of the blue jays getting Roberto Alomar and joe carter for tony Fernandez and Fred McGriff way back in the day

The trade has to help both teams in the here and now but unlike VAN, NJD doesn’t need a shakeup

Both teams decline the first trade. Doesn't make sense for either team
I'd rather keep hoglander than trade him for a rental ld

I don't necessarily think op's trade is close, but Nj would have to add alot to get Horvar and Hughes

I think this would help them be long term contenders, they would be getting another top 5 pick in a really deep draft, another 1st that should be in the teens, a prospect that was just taken 14th last year, and a guy who is top 10 in goals this year, obviously there would be an responsible contract in place as well, NJ is getting a lot of good peices that can help them add to their roster

I am not sure if this makes sense from Van's pov, we are giving up the value of 3 firsts to upgrade Horvat into Hischer, I like Nemic but can't see NJ trading him anytime soon

Something good for sure but I was trying to take into consideration that hischier and nemec are younger also… Hughes is elite tho while nemec hopefully will be

This would set them back in reality, especially if Horvat doesn't resign. Hischier is 23, Nemec 18. Teams don't trade those type of players especially if they're team controlled. Devils have already passed their rebuild. Picks and prospects don't help. Horvat also has a *23* shooting percentage which is bound to go down. We saw it last year with Kreider (dropped 7%). Its unsustainable

The issue for Vancouver is if we trade Hughes it's a trade we cannot lose, it would take an insane overpay for us to consider, Having Hisher and Nemic for Hughes makes sense only from our pov but we are getting a really good center in Hisher and hopefully something in Nemic, I just couldn't see us moving Hughes without that those big piece's

What do you mean another top 5 pick? Do you really think the Devils are picking top 5?

That or Vancouver, who is also poised to pick outside of top 5.. it didn’t make a ton of sense to me either though

Look from a hockey value standpoint this is a bad trade for NJ to begin with. But from a point of what they mean to the team and the value they represent to their franchise, Hischier's return would have to be astronomical to even pickup the phone

Only way I see the Devils dealing Nemec + Hischier out is if one of Makar, McDavid or Matthews is coming back in the deal.
