The only thing I think that prevents the Hawks from considering this deal is that McLeod was on that 2018 Canada WJC team. Until that whole thing is resolved, I'm not sure any GM is trading for any of those guys.

That’s definitely fair. Maybe just mid+late round pick instead

Hawks probably prefer to not put a 2018 WJ convicts line together

I think you're spot on there. A 2023 4th and a 2024 6th probably gets it done. Lafferty is a guy that fits on any roster. Never takes a shift off. Very fast. Good on the PK.

Don't like not getting a 1st but agree with your trade details logic (i.e., Holtz = 7OA). Don't think SJ would be sending a 5th for blackwood though since I don't even think SJ has interest.

sharks would really want a 23 1st from a deal like this, but this isn’t a bad deal.
what about?

Meier 50% retained plus Reimer and Robins
for
Holtz 23 1st, 24 2nd and Walsh.

would you consider that? Robins is actually a really solid player and has potential but is smaller and if we get Holtz then his path to the NHL is much more difficult.
just spit balling here, you deal isn’t far off though.

if Blackwood needs to be added it would be for cap only and would not garner anything going back to NJD.

Nobody has been convicted of anything.

But feel for poor Boris Katchoik, Michael Mcloud, Tyler Raddish who are only guilty of having names similar to Boris Katchouk, Michael McLeod, Tayler Raddysh

Simplify....

One of - Holtz or 2023 1st
One of - 2023 2nd or 2024 2nd
One of - Boqvist or similar

For Meier (assuming contract is signed)

Sharks have zero interest in adding a goalie. Needs to be a 1st in there if were trading our best player with half retention.

So you use a complete fleecing as a comp ( 1 major reason I hate the comp is ...lah blah blah) Always one that heavily favors their favorite team

Seravalli reported that Meier is likely to fetch LESS than DeBrincat, so I used it as the comp to actually favor the Sharks more

Alex Holtz or a first. Choose one.
Retention doesn’t even need to be on the table tbh
Mack is included to balance out the fact that a goalie was going the other way. He doesn’t need to be in there either I guess, and I’d be happy with this team running 3 netminder instead of my scenario with Mason Geertsen being called up

i opt for none then. Meier is worth Holtz and a 1st.
let’s just use the Tkatchuk comp and ask Marino Bratt and walsh plus the 25 1st then!

If Tkachuk was the expected value, then it would be approate to use as a comp. It isn’t though… and for good reason. Matt Tkachuk was a 104 point player at the time of the trade. Timo Meier has never had a point per game season in his career and isn’t on pace for one now.

While DeBrincat is better they're close to the same production this season, both on terrible teams. Meier brings a much more physical presence too. So agree it would be less for Meier but I don't think by much.
NJD's 1st is going to be so late so obviously Holtz is more valuable in that choice. If no 1st then maybe fulfill with more later picks or another prospect since NJ is loaded with good ones? Don't think SJ will want to trade Meier for what is being offered.

and Huberdeau was a 115 point wing and Bratt hasn’t come close to that either, i could argue Meier is closer to Tkatchuk than Marino and Bratt are to Weager and Huberdeau!
tkatchuk 82gp 42g 104p 1.26ppg
Meier 77gp 35g 76p .987ppg
Huberdeau 80gp 30g 115p 1.43ppg
Bratt 76gp 26g 73p .96ppg

if anything Bratt Marino and the 25 1st is a weaker return for Meier than the Tkatchuk deal!

Holtz (a struggling prospect) or a late 1st? Delusion is not a good color for you. It's not even close.

You completely ignored the first part of what I said. The reported expected of Meier among the league is less than DeBrincat’s. Find a reliable insider who is reporting the return to be much higher, and that’s a different story

Holtz is still a blue chip prospect, and hasn’t even played a full NHL season. Labeling him as struggling is a choice…

Yea I don’t see an issue filling out with B prospects like Samu Salminen, Chase Stillman etc. if that’s what would be holding it back
