First off, You can only retain 3 players and we're already retaining on Panik. So we can only retain two more players. And we're not trading Kubalik only pending UFAs Bertuzzi will be the main one going more than likely.

It wouldn't surprise me either, That Yzerman doesn't resign both Maatta and Sunny.

Wow, okay... just for starters, you can only retain on three contracts at a time.

I would love to do that Oilers deal! Suter is a good player, and would be good on our forward group.

Retention rules aside, I think these are headed in the right direction. Sundqvist trade needs more to Detroit. Names and JP trades are pretty unnecessary and shouldn't favor either team. I question Helberg for Broisot, but sure.

I like where your head is at. The trades need a little work.

If we’re taking back Craig Smith, I think we can get more from Boston. I think Sundqvist alone is worth a 2 & 4.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see a deal like that Rangers one for Kubalik, especially with the retention however, I would be surprised.

As for the Kings deal, I may be wrong but if Cal’s contract has term on it, I’d like nothing to do with that deal. Kinda doing a little too much with that one. Moving Maatta alone should net us a similar or better return than my estimation for Sundqvist.

The Oilers trade is pretty cool. That’s your best trade in my opinion.

I do not see either Vegas nor TBL doing those deals. They arguably get worse and are giving up picks.

I was thinking Vegas and Tampa might want to open up cap space, both are getting ~$1.5M with a serviceable replacement. Petersen's contract has 2 more years, but there isn't much in the UFA market for Detroit this year. They could probably resign Ned at a discount, but I think Petersen @ $3M for 2 years isn't too risky, especially if LA sweetens the deal. If he doesn't bounce back, he could probably clear waivers and open a spot for Cossa.

That Edmonton trade is awful for Detroit JP isn't even worth future considerations, let alone Suter with retention.

I agree, but trading for him would make zero sense. Yzerman drafted him in TB, he spends his off seasons in Michigan and he has already done one stint in Detroit since Yzerman took over. If it came down to it Detroit has more cap space they could outbid Tampa Bay.

He's a big boy though, and I think he might fit better on the Redwoods line than his role in Edmonton. I don't think Suter is worth a whole lot, and the cap relief was just to help make amends for the Athanasiou fleecing.

Suter with retention is easily a 3rd. He can play either wing or center he is a very good choice for a team looking for depth in a playoff run. With his cap hit if fits in on his new team he could be resigned. I wouldn't give up Zadina to get JP and it is foolish to think Zadina is anything but a bust for his draft position. But he works his ass off and doesn't complain or whine about ice time.

Yeah I kind of thought this last year about Namestnikov but that didn't workout so well.
